Holy shit one layer. WHY.

I know, right? Granted, my PS experience is making graphics for broadcast, but I'd not only failed every PS class I took for working in only one layer, I'd have no chance of landing a job if that's all I did.

Good lord, no wonder Dobby's art is shit. What a fucking amateur.

You know what I can't stand the most about his "Gotta catch 'em all" pokemon drawing? I could forgive the color scheme if it were an actually interesting drawing. Bottom line is, the decision of making an illustration with a huge assortment of characters has to be done with some concept of grabbing the viewer's attention, which this really doesn't for me. It's like with any other type of drawing dobson does: what you see is a flat, leveled planed image looking at a bunch of characters that are all spaced within the same area and dimensions. The only reason a person's eyes would be stuck on this image is because of how jarring it is, with little hard to discern characters hiding underneath larger characters. It's all so boring and poor in design.

I understand that working in perspective and coming up with a real bitching illustration is hard, I end up getting artist's block plenty of times because of it. But it's important to practice coming up with unique and captivating ways to draw something to make people go "woah". I've seen illustrations that utilize tons of characters before, and one of the key methods to making the image work is perspective. Compare dobson's drawing to this one:

9426_front.jpg

In it, the horizon of the illustration is much like in Dobson's drawing, but the characters in this drawing are positioned in essentially a diamond grouping, with figures coming towards the viewer while others recede away from them. This breaks up the monotony of the illustration while still making details and characters visible to see.Not every character gets as much space as the next, so to counter act that issue colors are used to make them stand out better. I don't know if I would call an image like this perfect in every way, but it does so much to make for a pretty amazing drawing that it keeps my attention on it.

Dobson just doesn't consider drawing techniques like this for his work, and I'd venture on as to say once his SYAC webcomic came into creation he dropped such things as perspective drawing altogether. This leads me to think that Dobson just doesn't ever look up references or drawings from other artists to get some idea of how to make his own work unique. To him a big collaboration drawing like his "gotta catch 'em all" drawing has no real artistic merit outside of fitting as many characters as he can on paper.

*sigh*
Pervy art for free
Thought process
Come off it, Dobby, nobody would draw free smut for you like that outside of inflation.

Also, another example of "group image done better" this one with the same theme: 151 pokemon!
Which brings an interesting point to the table in that really, the art itself is a lot cruder yet somehow this image looks miles better. There's some things I can pin down:
- It's colourful
- While a lot of them are off model, it's the "expressive" off model (like say, Ren and Stimpy) rather than not knowing how to actually draw them
- There's a heap of action going on.Pretty much everything is fighting something else, sometimes even on the other side of the pic. It certainly keeps attention for quite a while to see who's where and doing what to who.

Yeah, it's interesting because all the background characters are interacting with each other whereas in Dobbies picture they are all doing their own thing or staring at nothing in particular.

If it was just some random person on Deviantart it'd be a nice enough drawing but he went to college and wanted to be a Disney animator so he should know better but like most things he just doesn't seem to care enough to put much effort into his art.
Nobody wants him. Poor Dobbers. Maybe he should try being less of a whiny douchebucket?

But it's never his fault, Dobbie is just the victim, too much of a victim even for Tumblr. (:_(
Garfield Heathcliff Original Character
If he's going plagiarize he could have at least plagiarized a more obscure/interesting character, like if he wanted a yellow cat:

Now I've been waiting for Korra to finish so I can binge watch it all at once, which means I haven't actually seen the show yet, but I have seen promotional art and stuff. Something about the way Dobby draws Korra's eyes just... it feels so out of character. I don't know a damn thing about Korra other than what she looks like and that she's the Avatar but somehow I still feel like Dobson is getting her horribly wrong.

Look at those goddamn eyes. Look at them. She doesn't look like a badass, she looks like an uguu~ anime school girl!

I actually just finished a total Avatar binge and this is what pisses me off most about this picture. Korra is a big strong girl and her whole story is about being capable. Dobson turned her into a "kawaii sensi onigasmas!" moe. It looks nothing like her. Especially the face shape. I don't know how he could use a reference and still draw her so terribly wrong.

I'll answer that myself: "Because he's Dobson."

Given that Korra is anime-inspired and Dobson allegedly hates anime, it makes me wonder what he was intending to do. Maybe drawing Korra more anime-like helps to his lesbian fetish but he won't admit it.

Yeah, I've only seen S1 but wasn't she ridiculously stubborn and headstrong? That's pretty much why Airbending took so long to learn, it required a mindset she never had (kinda like Aang and Earthbending but even harder) the whole "overly blushy" thing Dobby does didn't sit well with me. I could kinda see Aang as a kid getting like that but he and Korra are practically opposites in nature...

Christ, the way Nooky draws Korra leaves something to be desired.

She looks like a giant turd. No really, she does. I'm not a Korra fan by any means, but that's butt-ugly and out of character I just can't comprehend.

While I agree that this is probably some of the worst Korra fan art out there, that sentiment can be said about pretty much anyone in Dobsy's artwork (including himself, bear or human).

Darn it, I have to research about GG-related stuff again. This time, it's about PixelGoth whom Dob tweets to often, but info about PixelGoth should be either in the GG thread or if not, I'll post it in the GG thread and link it here.

Anyway, time for a good old intro title to start it off:

I'm so sorry
And the result? PixelGoth made a pixel fanart of him, and he's no stranger to internet harassment.
