Culture YouTube releases it's YouTube Rewind for 2018

  • Iniciador del tema Iniciador del tema Null
  • Fecha de inicio Fecha de inicio
Usually these things are masturbatory self-indulgences for the YT community featuring a lot of e-celebs. They start off with PewDiePie declaring "YEAR REWIND" and then showing some dumb shit for the fans.

This one
  • Starts with Will Smith (who isn't a YouTuber).
  • Has Ninja (who isn't a YouTuber).
  • A Fortnite gag.
  • No PDP because he said the word NIGGER.
  • A bunch of people no one cares about.
  • An entire two minute long scene celebrating diversity, women, and non-whites.
  • Locked chat with the people in the video watching it together and live commenting with the most cringe inducing shit I've ever fucking seen.
Currently it's at about 70% dislikes and sinking. The comments are tearing it to shit. For all the talk of diversity, one commenter from Brasil pointed out that there are no Brazilian YouTubers present. Sorry menino, you faggots don't wear hijabs and don't hate Trump enough. Better luck in 2019.

Enjoy your trailer of the internet moving forward. Silicon Valley is going to keep ramping up their purge of anything that is outside of advertiser-friendly milquetoast center-left globalist shit until this is all that remains.
It's things like this that make me miss the 1.0 web. Decentralized websites without someone screeching for things to be taken down

Lol at anyone thinking this is gonna change a god damn thing. There are two kinds of cucks at Youtube. Those who are in love with making money, who are going to continue to ram down advertiser-cock and do whatever is required to do so, and those who are convinced that they are on the right side of history, for whom the "muh diversity" stuff some folks on here are mad about is a moral issue on which compromise is impossible. They are going to double down, make no mistake about it.

Also, it isn't as though there is any unified message being sent by these dislikes beyond that this particular video was shit. There people who hate Fortnite, who hate shitty corporate videos, who are enraged that Pewdiepie wasn't in it, and other assorted autists. It is a beautiful storm of hate, but it isn't like it is announcing some groundswell campaign to make Youtube better in any way.

My guess is next year they tone down the memes, ditch the Fortnite style shit, and maybe bring back Pewds if he has been a good boy and not engaged in too much wrongthink in the intervening time.

While there isn't a unified message being sent - I see this as the final nail in the coffin of people being fed up with YouTube. Maybe not enough to leave, but enough to voice their concerns over not being heard. Especially since the theme was "Everyone Controls Rewind." People are having false DMCAs/copyright strikes from various organizations and corporations (some of which aren't even legitimate), anything or anyone deemed controversial is put in limited state, demonitized, and now has their content terminanted; with the recent cases of Mumkey Jones and E;R due to media pressure. Real creators are getting desperate and in need of a solution, and now isn't a time to celebrate or to give in unwarranted optimism.

"There’s nothing wrong with YouTube’s using its year-end video to show off the good work being done on its platform. But it’s unfortunate that, in order to do that, the platform needs to write much of its recent history out of the script. Perhaps, instead of an attempt to make everyone happy with its video next year, the answer lies in taking steps to make YouTube more like the version of itself depicted in this year’s Rewind, the platform it clearly wishes it was."

Get this man a job at Google!

Imagine being Justin Bieber (:horrifying:). Imagine being the most hated thing on Youtube (metrics wise) for almost a decade. Now imagine you're not as bad as (((current year))) agenda pushing. Imagine how nice that must feel.

At this point there has to be serious discussions within the only two or three companies capable of launching a YouTube competitor about doing so. Those two companies are Amazon and Pornhub.
Amazon owns Twitch, don't it? Last I heard, they were putting features that hinted towards trying to compete with YouTube, but I don't know, I don't follow streaming (not into Fortnite or unaware cam whores). Could Pornhub put out a streaming service that avoids being stained with the company's main product? Kind of doubt it.

Another theory: maybe Amazon realizes, through market research, that general video streaming isn't that profitable? Thus, Amazon more aggressively goes after Netflix with their originals, trying to get into smaller but more profitable market. Maybe the main reason for YouTube manhandles so many of its creators is that 95% of them are useless to them (costs more to host their content than what they get out of it) except as an aggregate to get those eyeballs onto their website and their ad analyitics. Hence trying to promote the profitable 5% with this Rewind crap. I don't know; I am not a business person in any sense.

Notice how they both blame the lack of 'toxic' creators as why people don't like Rewind 2018? Almost like their trying to push a narrative and have nobody notice.

And they wonder why people hate the media.

"Become more like the version of itself presented in this years rewind video. You know, the one featured in what is quite literally the most hated video of all time on Youtube. They should be more like that."

Some motherfucker got a college degree and was paid by the NYTimes to write stuff like this. The absolute state of journalism.

Archive of original article because don't give that pit of boiling shit any clicks.

It's more like someone told the writer to come up with something and he spent 15 minutes calling a bunch of people Nazis and insulting the people who didn't like yet another piece of corporate shit shoved down their throat by his owners.

I miss the days when videos didn't have five minute bookends shilling some shitty subscription box service.

I fucking hate how they kinda awkwardly segue into the promotion to try and trick you into watching it. Like I get that it's probably required by sponsors to stop them just tacking it on the end so no one sees it, but holy fuck there is nothing more annoying than "In this video I'm going to compare these two products and tell you which is better. AND SPEAKING OF PRODUCTS, today's video is sponsored by Lootcrate, the ONLY subscription box for geeks, gamers, otakus,"

I always knew the Wild West days of the internet would eventually come to an end, but damn it still hurts :heart-empty:
Also what little I have seen and heard about his wife makes me suspect she is a fucking loon
Bitch is a Scientologist. That's literally all you need to know about her.

i wonder if we're reaching or will ever reach a critical point with these tech companies who have become so estranged from their userbase that they will actually get hurt. the thing that's so weird about them is that they are part of an entire industry where their users and their customers are two completely different groups of people. the users are the people who watch the videos, but the customers are the advertisers/market research people. for a while, yt could satisfy both. but now, they have to choose, and if they want to stay afloat, they'll choose to satisfy their customers (advertisers) at the cost of estranging their audience/viewers/users.

an interesting question is whether or not estranging the userbase will ever matter. the only possible way it could is if people get so fed up that they abandon youtube and either find other ways to get video entertainment or do something else with their time. complaining on the platform about a product that isn't intended to satisfy you in the first place doesn't do anything.

it seems they've managed to sanitize content and bend over their userbase without actually triggering a mass migration, so they'll probably just continue on this path as long as they can.

If you don't have any viewers, you won't have any advertisers. I guess the advertisers will just have to decide they'd rather nobly eschew actually selling their product because they just don't want money from those distasteful bad Internet people who are all Nazis.
