Take Patches to the vet - and leave her there until she's on the mend. Or to a no kill shelter. Either place is better equipped to handle a sick feral kitten.

You cannot convince me that CWC is capable of caring for kittens when he barely takes care of the animals he has now.

Chris took them to the vet. The vet initally didn't see anything of issue to warrant keeping them there. If Chris took them to a no kill shelter they probably would have been put to sleep for being too ill and it being a waste of time and money when the shelter is already filled to capacity with late season kittens. No kill only means the shelter will proudly proclaim they don't put down animals because they're full, but it does mean that they just use other reasons to keep the numbers down(ie too sick or unadoptable due to behavioral problems). Cats especially get the short end of the stick at shelters since there are so many of them. Shelters will put more effort in treating puppies with parvo only because puppies are always in high demand. You will always see an abundance of kittens.

Putting sickly kittens to sleep would have been far more humane than allowing them to needless suffer while under the care of incompetent boob who can't properly care for animals.

There are signs to look out for to tell you that something is off about a pet. How long did it take for CWC to notice something was wrong with Patches? Did he even notice? Or did the poor kitten just suddenly die in his arms?

The probably died while Chris was playing video games because a nurse came in and made too much noise.

Vets aren't miracle workers. Like a few people have mentioned, sometimes sick kittens, especially feral ones, just don't make it.

I can understand that the vet may have missed something upon the initial checkup, or that the kitten suddenly got sick; however there are signs that indicate that something is seriously wrong with an animal when it becomes sick (they're listless, stumbling, puking, etc).

Either CWC never noticed something was wrong with Patches, or he just ignored it.

I agree. Chris isn't the best judge of what's going on around him as evidenced by Bob's death.

He took Patches to the vet when Chris decided to bring him inside. The vet didn't spot anything.

Edit to add: So you're willing to give the medical professional the benefit of the doubt. But as explained pages ago, Chris took both Patches and the other one back when they were acting lethargic. So yeah, he did notice them acting off.

I get that. I've said as such in previous posts.

This doesn't change the fact that CWC has no expertise in properly treating feral kittens when he can barely care for the animals that currently live in his house; or the fact that sickly animals will show signs of being sick, which CWC obviously missed - confirming he's not competent enough to handle such a task.

Edit: So now you're saying that CWC noticed something was wrong with the kittens, and took them to the vet; but instead of keeping the kittens overnight for observation to play it safe, the vet sent the kittens home with CWC because they couldn't find anything wrong?

Vets aren't miracle workers; but that sounds grossly incompetent.

No, Chris noticed something was off and took them to the vet. The vet gave him antibiotics and sent him home. So I mean, if you want to be mad at something be mad at the vet who didn't provide the care you're expecting.

I wasn't going to say anything about this vet because it's only an opinion. People in Greene swear by Dr. Hagan because 1. He's affordable and 2. He appeals to the sort of people in Greene County. So your typical country vet. Take that as you will. I've heard on more than one occasion that he's a good vet if you just want to get shots done.

Oh boy, it just dawned on me that humanity is lost in the merge. If a goddess who sees the future can't predict the death of a mere cat...and where was his hubby during all of this? He can see the future too. Magichan trolled Chris again.

With respect, you weren't there. All you (or any of us) can do is make guesses off limited information recieved here. Best not to get TOO judgemental. Odds are you are wrong about many things and you can never know.

Well, he wanted to prepare for the Dimensional Merge by staging his own version of Disney's The Aristocats, but the Head CPU Goddess didn't head to his wishes.

I do feel bad for him losing Patches though. Wonder if he wants to cling to Sylvia while he has the chance.

And what happened? Where's Patches now?

Oh, wait - she's dead.

Whether you want to accept it or not; CWC has some responsibility to that kitten dying (again, didn't kill the kitten outright; but did not help it's odds; at all). As much as you guys try to say otherwise, CWC is not capable of properly caring for sick, feral kittens. Hell, he can barely care for the pets that are living with him prior to stealing the sickly litter from their mother.

The only time he actually helped any of those kittens was allowing someone competent to adopt one of them.

Chris might not be an expert at properly caring for feral kittens, but he tried.
Would Patches have lived if he left them outside? Would Animal Control have taken them to see kindly Doctor Hagan? If the kitten was truly on death's door would a shelter have been able to save them? Are any of the shelters around Chris "no kill" shelters whom wouldn't simply put the sick kitten down, especially if they're overpopulated? Are the shelters nearby properly staffed and budgeted? In regards to the other kitten that was adopted (and the one he's currently putting up for adoption) - it sounds like he was very protective of the kittens and tried to at least gauge that the adopter wasn't going to be a secret zoo sadist pervert by meeting them and spending some time with them and his mother casually interviewing them over tea.

Chris has his flaws for sure and isn't the ideal candidate to solve this kind of situation, but it sounds like it fell in his lap since the feral litter was living on his property. He fed them for a while outside and then tried to bring them inside to provide better care, took them to the vet several times, and did everything in his power to give them a better life, including allowing others that had gained his trust to take over the job. Other than being a shithead and trying to turn the situation to his financial gain that one time, what more could you expect of a person?

Its a fucked situation but you can't throw it entirely on Chris. It sounds like he did his due diligence but was dealt a bad hand and did the best he could with it.

And now Patches is dead.

B-but the vet doesn't give autistics a bad name! He is not worse than Hitler and/or Saddam!

This thread is honestly becoming a A-Logging/ratings circlejerk, Chris is not the 1st person to have multiple pets die on him, and he won't be the last.

We already saw one A-Log turn out to be a far, far worse pet owner than Chris. It's almost as if people trying to feel better about their existences by A-Logging cows are cows themselves
