An explosive device was found on Monday in a mailbox at a home of George Soros, the billionaire philanthropist who is a favorite target of right-wing groups, in a suburb north of New York City, the authorities said.

A law enforcement official confirmed that the device was found near Mr. Soros’s home. It did not explode on its own, and bomb squad technicians “proactively detonated” it, the official said.

Federal and state law enforcement officials responded to the scene in Katonah, N.Y., a hamlet in the upscale town of Bedford in northern Westchester County, after the Bedford Police Department received a call about a suspicious package at about 3:45 p.m.

“An employee of the residence opened the package, revealing what appeared to be an explosive device,” the police said in a statement. “The employee placed the package in a wooded area and called the Bedford police.”

His activism has made him a villain to conservative groups and the target of anti-Semitic smears. Roseanne Barr called him a Nazi in an infamous tweetstorm, and just this month, Representative Matt Gaetz, Republican of Florida, falsely speculated that Mr. Soros had funded a caravan of migrants moving north toward Mexico. There is no evidence that Mr. Soros paid thousands of migrants to storm the border. Nor is there evidence that Democrats support the effort, as President Trump has said.

Mr. Soros became a major political donor in the United States during George W. Bush’s presidency. He spent millions backing John Kerry’s unsuccessful bid to deny Mr. Bush a second term, was an early backer of Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign and contributed more than $25 million to Hillary Clinton and other Democratic candidates and causes during the 2016 election cycle.

Though Mr. Soros’s name has become a trigger for a subset of Republicans and conservatives, he has said that his main goal as a political activist was to see a return to bipartisanship.

He has said it was the extremism of the Republican Party that had prompted him to become a major Democratic donor, but also said he is opposed to the extreme left.

“I don’t particularly want to be a Democrat,” he said.

Bedford is about 50 miles north of Manhattan and has been home to many well-to-do city transplants, including Martha Stewart, Glenn Close and Ralph Lauren. Katonah, where Mr. Soros has a home, is known for its cultural offerings, including the Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts and the Katonah Museum of Art.

The town is known for its insularity and lack of gossip, which allows for well-known residents to fly under the radar. “They look to Bedford as to being protective of their privacy,” John Stockbridge, Bedford’s historian, said in a phone interview.

Mr. Stockbridge said that the town has largely avoided drama or violent scares. “I’ve been here for 35 years and I don’t remember any incident like what you’re talking about,” he said.

I’m just having mental images of that van pulling up in front of George a Soros and Hillary Clinton’s houses, stuffing packages in the mailboxes, and nobody noticing.

It's the not noticing part I'm rating you :optimistic: for. I mean where was Zimmerman, patrol cop, to jump out and stop this guy?

It’s a commercial style van so rear Windows can be covered so long as it has proper mirrors.
It only needs a reverse beeper alarm. It's either that or a rear-mounted fisheye.

Most delivery vans have both. Because redundancy. U-hauls just have beepers because people would just break the mirrors.

Anyways, that van is a conversion. Unless it has a beeper we don't know about those rear windows need to be able to be seen through.

I'm not a conspiracy nut, I don't necessarily believe in false flags, but the point I'm trying to get across is simple. Until we have answers to the questions I just raised, it can give substantial credence to the false flag narrative.

So why is it unreasonable to imply such a thing?
Because if your null hypothesis is "It's a false flag/inside job/set up", that generally indicates an unhealthy degree of paranoia (especially because those sorts of claims are essentially unfalsifiable).

and any facts produced after convincing one's self that it is a false flag will only be evidence to prove the preconceived notion

My central claim is he had help. Outside of that I've only pointed out the circumstances surrounding the situation, specifically that this happened right as early voting is taking place.

Since this guy just registered as Republican in 2016, I'm legit curious about his profile before then. What was the exact date again?

I mean the timing is just weird. Why now? "He's crazy" isn't good enough, even crazy people have a train of thought no matter how twisted it might be. If everything was exactly like it said on the tin, why not much earlier in the year? Especially during period where the blue wave was the main meme in the news? What got him to finally pull the trigger...

This is exploding all over Facebook, I can't verify it so definitely take it with a grain of salt, but it looks like he found employment with the Democrats recently. Or it could just be someone with the same name.

I genuinely believe the guy is a lunatic, and I guess the targets were more prominent in the news now was probably the trigger.

I think for anyone to dismiss the possibility of outside help or even a false flag is being naive. I'm not convinced there's any false flag or democrat involvement, there's really no specific evidence leading me to believe that. However it's not crazy, or even unreasonable, to imply the same government that overthrows despots and runs false flag operations outside of the homeland (Operation Condor is a good example of this) is incapable of false flag operations during election years.

Looks like recently is when he went all the way off the rails.

Look at now nice that van is. Shiny paint. No dents or scratches. Even the decals are shiny and bright not faded and peeling.

This stuff is all new territory to him.

But were they? There were other democrats featured in the news far more and far more frequently (especially those involved in close races) than Obama or Clinton or Biden. I heard 1 thing about Clinton in the last couple of months - that set him off?

EDIT:

Yeah, and the most recent thing to happen was the Kavanaugh hearing. Now THAT, sure I could believe he was set off. But then he didn't mail anything to the people involved? Didn't go after Ford?

It would be like if John Wilks Booth - after being upset over the civil war - decided to go kill the King of France. The involvement is way too tangential.

How did they find him? I sincerely apologize if this information is in the thread somewhere I didn't look, but I did shuffle back a fair number of pages and didn't see anything.

Because if that information isn't available, I'm putting on my robe and skeptic hat.

DNA and phone records apparently.

You are trying to ascribe rational motives to a completely irrational person. Lets face it, the guy was nuts.

No false flag, no dangerous agenda of the alt-right that needs to be stopped, no greater purpose or mission in life. The guy is just plain nuts. Lone actor and just crazed idiot.

Trying to find the meaning and purpose to the utterly irrational is a fool's errand.

My robe and skeptic hat are standing by because there's no way any action beyond an arrest and a hearing date could take place before the elections. Sheriffs, who are elected, want to be seen doing something as pertains to a high-profile crisis--or at least, not doing nothing--and they tend to have short lists of "usual suspects" whom they bring in for at least questioning when something happens. In this day and age, that includes "highly visible people with outspoken opinions".

Not saying they're pinning this on him for political points, because they might not be, but the timing of this is highly questionable. I'm not letting myself come to any conclusions until we see if they actually prosecute him, or just quietly put this down the memory hole.
