That entire part was made to mock yaoi fangirls, of which the Homestuck fandom is full of even if they hide it behind terms like "queer mlm" and say they're not yaoi fangirls because they know yaoi is fetishizing.

I wanna say the reason she got onto the art team has gotta be because she dated Toby Fox.
I think this was around 2010/2011? If not even earlier. They started an online relationship, and that's how she first got on Hussie's radar outside the scope of "just a fangirl". At some point Shelby flew out to stay with him for a week, I'm 90% Toby took her Vcard and then some time later they break up and she's a lesbian. Much later she self admitted that she was "probably terrible girlfriend" or something along those lines at the time because of the aforementioned depression.
Hilariously, for years after she was dating a girl Jo (unrelated to Homestuck crew) and they got engaged. Meanwhile she was planning her webcomic with her now-wife, and I think it was like a month between her last mention of Jo and her and Amber getting together. Quietly never mentioning her once fiancé ever again, I have to think there was some emotional cheating going on.
Unfortunately this was all glenned from her tumblr at the time (wecansexy.tumblr.com) which she wisely deleted upon trying to become a professional.

I genuinely feel bad for Hussie. His comic got too popular for his own good and he was too :autism: to handle it properly. He was too nice and naïve and he got robbed by TOG and the havoc had him hand homestuck over to Shelby, and we all know how well that went.
I really fucking miss the old days mspa like Problem Sleuth and Homestuck until act 6. I wonder if he’ll do a solo story ever again. Tie up loose ends with HS and do something he actually wants to do again. ngl that he’s one of the most talented people in the comic/indie scene, if not the most. It’s a crime VIZ has him legally obliged to beat a dead horse.

You see it in the credits and ambiguously canon Snapchat updates. If you haven't seen either of these, I really can't blame you, since they're pretty awful in comparison to the rest of the comic.

The Snapchat updates are. Wouldn't be surprised if the credits were too, since there's a good chance most of Act 6 and 7 were ghostwritten. I don't think we'll ever get a clear confirmation about any of that being true, though the writing style definitely doesn't seem like Hussie's.

A friend of mine recently decided to reread all of Homestuck on a whim (he claims it was a rainy Sunday and he had nothing better to do). He noted that while the tone shift of act 6 made everything feel a little off, the real shift from Hussie’s usual style came after the so-called Year 4 Megapause. Without the two month break, reading the continuation right away, the change from Act 6 Act 5 to the final part of Act 6 was very noticeable to him and he thinks it gives a lot of fuel to the ghostwriter theory.
The Megapause was when I stopped reading Homestuck altogether, so maybe you guys who read the rest can confirm/deny.

ppl always point to homestuck as an example of a crazy story that managed to go all over the place and have all these crazy timelines and unique characters and stories going on but

eh, at some point hussie lost oversight over his storyline and just went with the sjwtards' suggestions. i doubt that he would have been able to salvage this mess however, even if his whole private life was near perfect aka no death in the family or other troubles.

im new here, but ive been following this thread for a while.
recently, hiveswap.com, and all of the links related to the site were shut down, along with paradox space and mspa.
they’ve come back up after two days, with no word from whatpumpkin about what happened. part of me hoped that andrew got his shit together, but apparently not.
also, shelby dated toby fox? that’s news to me, wow.
i also have some dirt on everyone being fired; it was all viz’s doing, apparently. friendsim is so that they can make more money to 1. rehire everyone or 2. raise even more money for hiveswap, which is, as far as i know, is in hiatus yet again.
andrew didnt want anyone to get fired, but viz owns his ass, so there really isnt anything he can do about it. i’m all for people like james, toby, papers, ect getting rehired, but i could care less about cohen and shelby.

seems like all of the websites went thru a url change and slight appearance change
i never knew abt hiveswap.com but its back up, mspaintadventures became homestuck official and paradox space still exists w a diff url and a v odd layout, with 'hiveswap' in the url
they prob want to capitalize solely on hiveswap [and by extension homestuck]
and... is that a progress bar at the bottom of the hiveswap website?
also shelby cragg involed in ANYTHING never did bode well imo, and no matter what i just CANT unsee that damn neokosmos artstyle in everything she drew for the friendsim

I didn't know that part, but I know now that Hussie is dating Shelby's sister (? step-sister?) who is, like, 20 years younger than him. I'm sure that's been mentioned here before, but it's still pretty wild to think about. Homestuck is just one big incestuous family in the making, I guess.

he needs to get better girlfriends and friends. seems as if most of 'em are manipulating and using him.
there was another mspa, ones that fans used and posted. that was the one that got shut down, to my understanding.
im thinking that's what paradox space got shut down for: an update. that bar at the bottom of hiveswap.com was the old news that viz removed, not a progress bar. it's always been there. i was tired when i wrote the original post, so i might as well correct it: the extended zodiac, troll call, and the links to hiveswap.com were all broken, and if you tried to go to the page there was a server error.
i think it's more of the fact toby fox seemed, i dont know, gay to me? like i thought he was dating james roach lmao
or at least one of those virgins for life. shelby is one of those dykes that dates a guy, doesn't turn out well, and starts dating girls.

i'm almost positive every girlfriend he's had has used him in some way. i cant help but feel bad for the guy.

im sure he's broke as fuck at this point, anyway. but he's not that bad. i'd give him like. a 4 out of 10 or something; i've seen worse.
he's like forty though so he might as well accept he isnt gonna get much farther in his love life.

Homestuck never had good writing. Too many plotholes combined with massive amounts of telling instead of showing lead to a confusing mess. Also his dialog boxes are excruciating to read.

act five is pretty solid i'd say, but it's all about options.
the writing isnt that bad, but the plot holes are god awful. its mainly because of how confusing the web-comic is, with time travel and what not, and the boxes took me forever to fucking read, christ.
it does tell a lot, but it shows as well, but not as much as it needs to.
tldr: if you can get past the flaws it's decent, but problem sleuth is better
