🐮 Lolcow George Ciccariello-Maher / @ciccmaher - So far left that he'd be invoking poe's law if he wasn't verified.

2017 really has taken a number of careers of incompetent pseudo-academics that think getting shit is everyone else's fault hasn't it? Mike Neckerson, Kevin Beyoncestalker, and now George Cuckariello is resigning.

Ordinarily, I'd be kind of troubled by a trend like this, but in all three of these cases, the pseudo-academics in question didn't merely express an unpopular opinion but revealed themselves to be entirely incompetent to hold their jobs.

An academic who expresses the opinion that, for instance, black students are stupid and that he will therefore automatically give them bad grades isn't just expressing an opinion, he's giving any student of that race in one of his classes the entirely reasonable belief that they will not be treated fairly in that class. Like Mike Superneck, expressing a sincere belief that he hopes his students become cops and then are murdered, is completely unfit to teach students.

Sadly, this kind of shitty academic poses a real threat to the general principle of freedom of academic speech, simply by casting it into disrepute with outrageous, moronic behavior.

Personally I'm more worried about the fact that people like him are literally a dime a dozen on college campuses. Had he kept his opinions in the classroom and off of social media, he probably would have at most gotten a mention on Campus Reform.

Sargon did a video on George playing the victim.

Please note at 0:28 into the video when one of the "death threats" the CNN video played was literally parts of the Navy SEALs copypasta. This shit isn't death threats. This idiot got trolled and was too fucking stupid to know he was sent a meme.

He's claiming that he's been hired at a New York university:
George Ciccariello-Maher, the professor who once tweeted "All I want for Christmas is white genocide," claims to have been hired as a visiting scholar by New York University's Hemispheric Institute of Performance and Politics.

Last week Ciccariello-Maher said he was driven to resign from his post at Drexel University after enduring "nearly a year of harassment by right-wing, white supremacist media outlets and internet mobs," including "death threats and threats of violence," presumably following the professor's tweet about white genocide on Dec. 24, 2016, which sparked media backlash and earned a rebuke from his own university. Ciccariello-Maher later sought to clarify the tweet by referring to it as "satirical," even slamming Drexel for disavowing his post.

In March, he tweeted, "Some guy gave up his first class seat for a uniformed soldier. People are thanking him. I'm trying not to vomit or yell about Mosul."

After the mass shooting in Las Vegas, Ciccariello-Maher posted, "It's the white supremacist patriarchy, stupid," arguing the tragedy was caused by an overarching "narrative of white victimization."

In a Facebook post announcing his resignation, Ciccariello-Maher maintained his circumstance illustrates how the Right's efforts to "[target] campuses with thinly veiled provocations disguised as free speech" are "cynical" ploys rooted in little legitimate concern for academic freedom.

Ciccariello-Maher is not currently listed among the institute's visiting scholars online, and the Washington Examiner's request for confirmation of his hiring as so far gone unreturned.

I've responded in the past to complaints that conservative media's campaign on behalf of academic freedom is insincere and anti-free speech, arguing there are real reasons for concern when a professor acts unprofessionally or displays a worldview that is so radical it calls their ability to effectively educate students into question. Wishing for "white genocide" on Christmas probably falls into both of those categories, though I'm glad Ciccariello-Maher had the freedom to say it, so we all know where NYU students' tuition dollars are going.

It gets too annoying so its easier to deactivate than deal with the mob of braying ninnies.
I guess I can see that. I've never had that happen, but then I keep my personal life off of the Internet. KF is like a giant knitted sampler with that as the motto.
