Turbo Autist Surgeon: on ABC TV - TV show about teenage autistic doctor, I shit you not.

So this is a real show. I actually had to look up the trailer/ad for it because I really though I must have misheard the ad, but no, it's all to real.

I have no doubt it was pitched as "Rain Man" meets "Dougie Houser MD" to the executives, but somehow instead of getting laughed out of the meeting it was green lit.

Meet ABC newest Monday night show, Dr. Autsim.

They apparently even provide helpful do CGI graphics so you can see how his autism makes him a top tier surgeon. (Never mind the fact autists usually hate to be in any line of work involving social or intimate contact, much less blood and guts, but hey shows about programmers and mathematicians would be too boring.)

I don't want to watch this show but it looks so unbelievably god awful I may have to see at least one or two episodes.

Have you seen network TV in recent years? I had not, but due to visiting relatives got a dose of what's on American network TV this weekend and it's bad in the way TJ Hooker is bad, as in I can't believe people take this shit seriously. I watched a show where the president's wife killed him, then she became VP, and then the top PR rep in DC made her commit suicide or "ruin her."

This show will be bad beyond belief. Of course, they hired an attractive young male lead so they are looking for young tween/teen girls looking for a new celebrity crush and sentimental housewives to give this show the ratings to survive - it won't survive on anything approaching good writing, because good writing doesn't exist on network TV drama.

It's literally going to be an insult to those who actually have autism.

And it's fucking horrible because it's House but with Autism. Pretty much where the creator of House does with his creations: House was interesting because it's something that everyone has but inflicts towards a doctor and with rare cases. He's a jackass because of his painful leg and that he has to deal with idiots.

This guy just deals with workplace bullshit drama that can easily be cleaned up in 30 minutes or less.

Those shows are all cable shows, not network TV shows - big difference. I'm sure there might be an exception but I can't think of any quality network TV dramas in the last ten years off hand.

Idk if your American or not but network TV here means the commercial channels of NBC, ABC, CBS & FOX. The networks that dominated the days of 3 channel free television for decades. All the shows you mentioned were done for subscription cable channels - AMC, HBO, etc...
