The Olympics seems to have been the watershed for what happened to SLC. I have friends who have lived in the area both before and after that event, and they've pointed out that, while SLC was more left-wing than the rest of the metro, like any other big city, it wasn't anywhere near the San Francisco By the Wasatch that it quickly became after the Olympics.

When I went out there in Y2K, I thought the area was great and actually hoped that it remained the "Mormon theocracy" that the area's more mouthy leftists liked to call it, because if Californians ever moved out there en masse, they'd immediately shit the nest like they do everywhere else they migrate. Fast forward not even a decade and a half, and they'd done what they always do. Their bullshit has even spread out to the suburbs, with gangs setting up drug dens in places like Layton.

To be fair, we have squishmallow Mitt Romney turning that event into a relative success for what SLC eventually became.
What a lot of people fail to understand, especially leftists, is the "mormon theocracy" is what keeps order in the state. They do welfare, they do disaster relief, at times they bail out the state itself, like they did last dry season when the lake shrunk and they donated a fuck ton of water to fill it back up. For decades now we've been importing people that don't understand that relationship and its going to fuck us over hard. It probably was the Olympics, I wasn't here for that, so I take your word for it

Far as Mormons go, have had good experiences. Served with them while on active duty. Had one as a supervisor for a while, very laid-back guy, hardly knew he was there, easy to work for. Later became chief of operations and training for our unit, a position above the former supervisor, who outranked me. We had no problem working together, guy knew the selection was made by the unit commander.

Have no problem with Mormons, infinitely preferable to Muslims.

Got these today.

I've got a personal anecdote of Mamdani's New York that I was told about. My cousin, who lives in one of the city's "safe" neighborhoods, was followed into her apartment by a man who made her uncomfortable. After scaring him off, she would later go to the Midtown precinct and pointed the individual out in their files. I predict he will be arrested and released on the same day.

I’d also like to add that this thread is unreadable when it becomes r/atheism.

@WelperHelper99, STOP FALLING FOR EVERY BAIT THAT COMES YOUR WAY. HAVE YOU LOOKED INTO ZOLOFT YET.

Everyone else just needs to mute @WelperHelper99 because 99% of the time, anything he posts isn’t worth reading or responding to. I’ve muted him for a long time, but I can only take so much when I see everyone replying to him.

Yeah Mormonism is so dislikable in its obviously fraudulent religion which is provably wrong by modern historic records that the entire business caused multiple wars with the United States in 1838 and in 1850.

"Winning" I suppose is maintaining belief in such a religion.
Modern cults like Mormonism and Scientology somehow still persist even though everything about them is silly. But when it comes to blows, they had to be put down and then forgiven for treason.

Like you're the white version of muslims, Idk if you get that. And Joseph Smith is a villanous figure who clearly used his wits to con entire communities for money and women. But this is irrelevant. The justification for putting the south down can easily be compared to "what the mormons were doing" right before.

But notice how you say "we" when referring to mormons and defend their treason.

hurry up and get in the space ship, so we don't have to hear anymore about golden plates and bullshit that is obviously fake masquerading as christianity. Thank you!
I don't know enough about mormonism to really form an opinion but I am always extremely skeptical of mass hatred against a community known for being mostly white. Particularly one that is based on upholding civilizational values and aspiring to be greater and not chimping out. That's obviously a flawed litmus test and not the only one I use but it is there because i've noticed a common theme among people who go after such groups.

I even find myself having some sympathy for scientology in that regard but not much.

I'm neutral to positive on Mormons but I can get the hatred since they don't qualify as Christian under the Council of Nicaea and people get upset at that. I personally find the history interesting and the theology more interesting in how it incorporates very old ideas dating back to First Temple Judaism where God had a wife named Asherah. The branch of Yahwism that incorporated the idea of Asherah was so powerful that it had to be written in the Torah not to worship the ceremonial tree/pole that represented Asherah and there were multiple periods of times where both God and Asherah were worshipped together in the first Temple.

I do love sperging about the ancient bible though.
I predict he will be arrested
