Especially when the boss can be like "I'd welcome the competition if you ran your own business, but it's hard for these reasons so be aware of that."

They know someone in the bizz who went solo and now has to spend every weekend doing the admin, had to take a loan for his own van, etc. The whole "the owner can only make money because he takes excess value from your labor" argument doesn't work if you work in a small company in which you can see the boss taking the risks while you're safe taking a regular salary. And self-employed or small business owners are the ones that notice the most how much the government takes on top of payroll tax, while also giving them extra expenses through regulations.

Exactly. Once you see these things it's hard to unsee them. Obviously it scales up to larger businesses too, but they're also shitty for other reasons. Namely responsibility gets so diluted and passed around in really big orgs so bullshit can happen more easily (that and getting in bed with papa government.)
Still this and the general Labor Theory of Value can be debunked with a small amount of thinking and noticing. One part is them being young and stupid. They're stuffing hundreds of dollars in the cash register, and only take a fraction of that home. Meanwhile the manager seems to just sit in the office and comes out to rag on them. Then they go to college and this really smart guy that's teaching them all these new things also tells them about communism.
And the professor doesn't talk about a mom and pop shop with a hired hand, he talks about how general motors makes millions while there are still people starving on the streets.
I think a lot of people also forget that a system needs to be based around the fact people try to exploit it, not around the fact everyone will support it. The commune fails if the glasscutter doesn't just give you spectacles for free because he thinks it's fun.

It’s produced by any discharge that happens in the air. It’s why offices have a distinct ‘office smell’. Fan motors create tiny arcs as they speed up and slow down, but my post was more of a joke. I don’t think those fans produce much ozone to be harmful, and the smell could be more from the plastic. But either way, should not be sniffing volatile chemicals for fun.

Also, if you work for yourself and there’s a mistake you have to go back and fix it’ll be at your expense. If you go back and you’re on a salary you still get paid to go back.
A lot of these small businesses will also let you keep and use your work vehicle for personal use including paying for the fuel.
