I made a work friend who has recently become a "sometimes hanging out outside of work" friend. I don't have a large friend circle and it's rare to find people of my demographic in the area who don't have or want children, aren't actively dating, aren't into the creepy side of alt culture, don't rely on drugs or alcohol for social experiences, and also don't have extremely different political opinions than me - so it's nice to have this one friend. We have a lot of very similar experiences and feelings that I have found to be highly uncommon for others to share, and it's good to feel less alone in these matters.
Unfortunately, this person is very pro-trans. I've been able to avoid the topic for the most part or make vaguely agreeable noises when my friend trots out some ripped-from-twitter quip about trans sports or Rowling (not unheard of for me to do anyway in order to keep myself safe). I suspect that a lot of it is influenced by a history of their own trauma and wanting to fit in with peer groups, rather than the nastier reasons people might have for supporting trans ideology. Either way, it was something I was willing to put up with, though it did make me sad that there was always going to be this major difference that would prevent what I consider a deep friendship from ever forming.
Recently, this person expressed interest in going, together, to an explicitly pro-trans event which would largely about fundraising for pro-trans organizations and had "trans" in the name. It's not like a farmer's market that has a stand or two run by a tranny, or a paint and sip at a shop with a trans employee. The whole thing is trans all the way down. My friend is extremely excited about this event and, based on our shared interests, there's no real reason for me to not want to go. Luckily I have an excuse to pass this one up, but if the organizers of the event continue to put on girlcock-suckfest events then it's going to become too apparent too quickly that I have no intention of going to a gathering of gender confused freaks and giving my money to groups who want to help children mutilate their bodies.
Oh, well. Meaningful friendships are overrated, I guess.
