I don't think spamming diagnosis's and doctors appointments under the guise of "getting dat help" did Andy any good growing up. It reminds me of those people on twitter who have like 50 diagnosis's in their bio because they go to the doctor's office every 4 days
A whole lot of looking for solutions to problems that don't exist, I would consider this more enablement than anything else
This is like when you were a kid and you faked being sick so you could stay home from school and play xbox. You realize that all you have to do to pretend something is wrong with you and then you get a free pass to do whatever you want. Maybe this works the first few times but then mom would catch on to your little shenanigans and you'd get busted. With Andy it's like they never fucking caught on. A 40 something year old man pretending to be sick so he can stay home from school
The thing is though, he
didn't have some crazy multitude of diagnoses from childhood. The only legitimate (as in ones actually diagnosed by real, qualified doctor) were:
-PTSD
-Oppositional Defiant Disorder
-Tourette's Disorder (mild, non-debilitating; mostly resolved at onset of adulthood)
-Paraphilia NOS (diaper fetish)
-Obesity
As an adult, the PTSD and ODD were struck, and he was diagnosed with Schizoaffective Disorder - Depressive Type, diabetes, and hidradenitis suppurativa.
He was placed in a residential program from ages 9 to 12, which
did help, as did the Falk behaviour sped school.
A big problem is the sheer amount of lying Amby does, about
everything. In addition to autism, he also insisted he had ADHD, auditory processing disorder, and 50-100+ other disorders
he simply was never diagnosed with, despite his insistence he had them since he was "a little boy" He can't even keep his
fake story straight, insisting he was nonverbal until 5, 9, and 12; in reality, his speech onset was normal, although development was slow. In one video, he asks Mawm "Remember my AAC in school? You know, my talker thingy?" in reference to an early TTS device. Mawm replied with "You never had one! What are you talkin' about?", and Amby abruptly cuts
Tawm and Mawm weren't perfect by any means- doctors charted them as being naïve, and questioned their ability to provide the structure that a child like Andy needed. What they
didn't do is
actively create the monster like Borb Chandler did.
I'd also argue that it was more than just Tawm and Mawm that ultimately contributed to the problem.
No doctor ever put him on a long-term hold, even when his schizoaffective disorder would have allowed it.
The City of Tonawanda Police (not blaming individual officers to be clear, but department policy) should never have allowed the thousands of calls they did. At some point, the proper thing to do is actually start charging Amby.
Misuse of 911.
If he says Tawm is abusing him, and Tawm clearly isn't, making false reports, and harassment.
If it spills outside, disorderly conduct.
If he's really kicking off inside, domestic violence- and they don't need any of the family to press charges for that.
Andy is just so annoying,
everyone hopes he'll just be somebody else's problem.
