I haven't played eve in a really long fuckin time, like a decade before it went f2p. The days of excitement, adventure, and really wild things. The halcyon days of BoB vs GS. So I'm not exactly up-to-date, but I always found it best to play eve sober.
EvE PvP is definitely something else. Even just having a T1 frigate with T2/Meta equipment on the line is a legitimate rush I haven't felt from any other game. I don't think I'd be able to handle PvPing in a Pirate faction ship with pirate/officer equipment. The most I ever risked was a Bomber (T2 Frigate) with some low end officer equipment, and that was just knocking out abandoned structure's in my alliance's space
