FRISCO, Texas — Karmelo Anthony, the teen accused of fatally stabbing another teen, Austin Metcalf, at a Frisco track meet, has been indicted on a murder charge, officials said.

A grand jury indicted Anthony on Tuesday, according to the Collin County District Attorney's Office. A murder charge is punishable by 5-99 years or life in prison.



Anthony, a 17-year-old former student of Frisco Centennial High School, was arrested and charged with murder in the fatal stabbing of Frisco Memorial High School student athlete Austin Metcalf in April at a track meet in Frisco ISD's Kuykendall Stadium. He was released from jail later that month after his bond was reduced from $1 million to $250,000.

Anthony has claimed self defense in the case, which garnered national attention, heightening racial tensions and raising security concerns among everyone connected to the case, including both families and Judge Angela Tucker, who is presiding over the case.

"We know this case has struck a deep nerve — here in Collin County and beyond," Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis said in a statement Tuesday. "That’s understandable. When something like this happens at a school event, it shakes people to the core. But the justice system works best when it moves with steadiness and with principle. That’s what we’re committed to. And that’s exactly what this case deserves."

Anthony's attorney, Mike Howard, called Tuesday's indictment "an expected and routine step in the legal process."

"Karmelo and his family are confident in the justice system and the people of Collin County to be fair and impartial," Howard said. "Of course, Karmelo looks forward to his day in court. It's only in a trial that a jury will hear the full story, one that includes critical facts and context that the grand jury simply didn't get to hear."

Howard again raised Anthony's self defense claim in his statement Tuesday.

"We expect that when the full story is heard, the prosecution will not be able to rule out the reasonable doubt that Karmelo Anthony may have acted in self defense," Howard said. "Self defense is a fundamental right guaranteed every American."



Metcalf's father, Jeff Metcalf, told WFAA in a statement that he's "pleased that we are moving forward."

“With the first degree murder indictment, it now goes into the court system," Jeff Metcalf said. "I fully believe that justice will be served for Austin Metcalf. I look forward to the forthcoming trial. But it will never bring my son back.“

Under his bond conditions, Anthony is required to wear an ankle monitor and ask permission to leave his home. If Anthony violates any conditions of his bond, he will have to return to jail. He graduated and received his high school diploma in May, but did not attend the ceremony, WFAA previously reported.

Anthony allegedly confessed to the stabbing immediately after he was arrested, claiming he was defending himself from Metcalf, officials said, as WFAA previously reported.

A witness reportedly told police that Metcalf told Anthony he had to move out from under the Memorial High School tent. Anthony responded by opening his bag and reaching inside, WFAA previously reported.

"Touch me and see what happens," Anthony told Metcalf, according to a witness.

Metcalf reportedly then touched Anthony, the witness told a responding officer, and Anthony told Metcalf to punch him and see what would happen. Soon afterward, the witness said, Metcalf reportedly grabbed Anthony to tell him to move. At which point, the affidavit continues, Anthony reportedly pulled out what the witness recalled as a black knife and stabbed Metcalf once in the chest before running away.

The deep tension sparked by the incident has raised concerns that the case may be tried outside of Collin County. Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis told WFAA that the judge will make that decision at the time of trial.

Things didn't have to end like this for Karamelo. He could have just left. He chose to stay and kill Austin for the crime of being disrespected, making him his personal enemy.

That sums up the current state of the African-American community, as proven by these pro-Kalmelo agitators. You didn't HAVE to flee a traffic stop, you didn't HAVE to flash money for clout, you don't NEED to say the N-word in regular conversation. He didn't HAVE to stab a kid for being told to leave. However, that takes introspection, accountability, awareness and self-regulation. Alas, it's just impulse ran by entitlement and enabling antisocial, destructive behavior.

Also so far from what I read from the testimonies it really seems like this "asoiring student" was out for blood. What white kid would've been allowed to finish after stabbing a fucking kid. If Austin lived and fought for his life he most likely wouldve been suspended. I think most can agree that zero tolerance isn't great, but it seems like something you have to do if forced to have rules for violent apes and don't wanna be called racist.

Everything about this case is disgusting and I really hope Carmelo gets life. He doesn't seem remorseful for what happened at all. From the testimony he wanted to instigate a confrontation that would justify him using a knife. Even though his baseline for justify is HE TOUCHED ME.

Ive personally had to use a gun in a self defense situation against a black guy. He didn't touch me, but it was very obvious he was attempting to rush me down and fight me. I did what I had to do to protect myself... I wasn't hoping for some situation like that or trying to instigate a response.

I bring that up to say - simply shoving someone isn't reason to draw a knife/gun in almost all circumstances. There's a lot of context that can change an encounter and with this one we see - Carmelo brings a knife to a school event, antaganozies Austin, is gripping a knife he has hidden in his bag, and as soon as he thinks IM JUSTIFIED TO STAB he does just that.

Spoiler: Saturday 06/06/26 Creed Enjoyer Witness Testimony

The state called a 16-year-old witness to the stand. He told the jury that he is a linebacker and did track with the Metcalf twins. His events were shot put and discus.


When asked about the day of the stabbing, the witness said that prior to the incident, he and the Metcalf twins "were just talking, having a good time, and everything sort of happened."


The witness said he turned around and saw his teammates "telling this random guy to get out of our tent."


He described Karmelo as "stubborn" and said he did not want to leave the tent. Like previous witnesses, the 16-year-old recalled hearing Karmelo say "touch me and see what happens," though he did not see the actual stabbing.


The witness testified that Karmelo challenged Austin to a fist fight, and Austin replied, "No, I'm not going to fight you at a track meet." He also recalled hearing Austin say, "he stabbed me, he stabbed me, he stabbed me," after the incident.


"There was a hole in his chest," the witness said. He said he went back to Austin, tried to help him, and saw coaches holding Hunter back. He described Austin looking "blue and purple" on the ground.


The witness, like the previous witness, told the jury that Karmelo was the aggressor and that there was no reason for him to stab Austin.


During cross-examination, Shook questioned the witness about an April 5 interview with law enforcement.
The witness said he did not speak with detectives on the day of the stabbing because he "didn't want to talk to anyone" about the incident.


The witness explained that he was sitting at the bottom of the bleachers, listening to Creed on the day of the incident, eliciting a small laugh from the courtroom gallery.

This didn't really add anything other than learning that this kid likes Creed

They were lucky Floyd died. That gave them a victim and people saw him as such because they saw the officer on his neck, which made the "he was murdered" argument more believable.

Spoiler: Saturday 06/06/26 Dr. Elizabeth Ventura Testimony

The prosecution called Dr. Elizabeth Ventura, Collin County's chief medical examiner, to the stand. Judge John Roach warned spectators in the gallery to exit if they wanted to, due to the content of the upcoming testimony.


Austin Metcalf's mother, Meghan, was seen leaving the courtroom. Prosecutor Bill Wirskye signaled for the rest of the family to leave as well. Austin's friends, who are present in the courtroom today, chose to stay.


Ventura, who is a medical doctor, explained that her duties include performing autopsies and determining the cause and manner of violent deaths in Collin County.

She testified that her office got involved in this case because there was a "suspected homicide."


Ventura described Austin as "seemingly healthy," saying he was 6'1" and weighed 213 lbs. She began to describe the autopsy, saying that when conducting an external exam, she noted that Austin's body was in a hospital gown and that his hands and feet were bagged.


She testified that she also found a stab wound to his chest. She said the wound perforated both the chest bone and the sac that surrounds the heart (the pericardium), and penetrated the right ventricle of the heart.


Because the knife wound was through the heart, Ventura told the jury that she removed the heart and studied it. She noted that the wound was oval-shaped and 2 inches in length, describing it as "gaping."


Ventura told the jury that knives can make two types of wounds: wounds shaped like slits and wounds shaped like ovals. Austin's wound was shaped like an oval.


She said the path of the wound went through the cartilage of the sternum, penetrated the heart in the right ventricle, and completely went through the heart wall.


Several autopsy photos, State's Exhibits 80-83, were admitted into evidence. The defense objected to Exhibits 82 and 83, but Judge Roach overruled the objection.


Exhibit 80 showed a stab wound to Austin's chest.


According to NBC 5's Maria Guerrero, who is inside the Collin County courthouse, several jurors appeared to have emotional reactions to the autopsy photos.

Wirskye showed Ventura a replica blade of the one used in the stabbing, and asked if that knife was capable of making the wound on Austin. Ventura said it was. She said the official cause of death was ruled as homicide.


On cross-examination, Ventura explained that the penetration depth of the knife was about 2.5 inches. The total length of the knife was about 3.5 inches.


The defense briefly questioned Ventura about whether it was possible for Austin to have impaled himself on Karmelo's knife when he pushed Karmelo.


On redirect, Ventura explained that this impaling scenario is one in a thousand, and that because the depth of the wound is shorter than its length, it is unlikely.

Metcalf's mom and family left the courtroom ahead of this testimony. It is confirmed as Dr. Elizabeth Ventura. Knife went through sternum and penetrated pericardium and right ventricle of the heart. Defense objected to a couple of exhibits here. Not sure what the difference between a slit vs oval knife wound would be if any med fags know. Dr. Ventura says on cross examination that the defense trying to say he may have impaled himself is 1000 to 1. BTFO.
