Hypothetically speaking, if Melton did the smartest thing possible and just accepted the HRO and moved on. Would he be off the hook with the Judge for the fake Dr note? Or would the court continue to press the issue even if he gave up on the HRO?

Really up to the judge's discretion. They can just go "okay you lose for failure to appear" or if they're feeling pissed, arrange contempt proceedings.
