UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679 (https://archive.ph/5Ba6o)

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Última edición por un moderador:
Dude, I participated in protests for george floyd back when that happened lmao. A lot can change in just a few years. I'm sure a lot of kiwis were once naive progressives, and now here we are lol

This could've all been avoided if we all stayed in our respective countries. Or continents even, I'll be generous
I'm proud to say that I've always been a chud. I'm of the prophetic schizo variety where the people around me go "oh no, you were right all along." because I can fucking read books.

Listening to the livestream now, even Mahmood is rattled. Funnily enough, they are attacking Farage, not Lowe. I have never really heard them attack Lowe.
Attacking Lowe means bringing attention to his stance on this situation which is "hang the son and deport and de-naturalise the rest of them". Which lots of people likely quietly agree with. Attack Farage means they can keep the attention on the shabbos goy/control opposition rather than anyone who would actually like to change this shitheap of a nation.

Is it about reading books or just being able to form independent thoughts, rather than being a mindless sheep following the zeitgeist ?
Possibly both.
I never took the knee, but I made a mental note of those who did, whilst hiding my utter contempt.

The police don’t get to say the injuries were not survivable. The coroner gets to say that. if they weren’t, then really, it makes no difference, they STILL should have gotten him immediate medical aid and acted like he had potential internal bleeding he is noticeably gurgling on the video ffs. Their actions may have hastened his death, and their inaction was utterly inhuman. Poor lad. I hope his family sue, the police are completely at fault here.

The "iconic image" is AI modified, unfortunately, in case it's not clear to anyone
Thanks for the note - I've updated the post (not sure if you get a ping on a post edit).

I hate this shit. A screenshot of the footage is powerful enough, why TF did someone have to go and alter it? It's being shared all over the place, too.
Eh, depends on your goal - it's not an honest documentary record to be sure, but as a piece of art/propaganda it's miles more effective than a raw video still. Ethically uncomfortable, but this is how you win a PR battle. The edit has been shared by Mr Metokur on X and Ameribros are making further edits riffing on it.

The police really should not have said that, it came across as "Well he was going to die anyway so what difference does it make if they didn't help him?" It's incredibly callous. He didn't have to spend his last moments being condescended to, accused of lying, and treated like a common criminal. He could have been afforded some dignity and comfort.
I fucking despise all of the people involved.

The police know that it was survivable, they know that if the public knew that the wounds were survivable (the nearest hospital was four minutes away) then it makes all officers negligent enough to possibly tag them with negligent manslaughter. Refusing to fill the wound with the anti-stab powder followed by dragging him across concrete followed by cuffing him BEHIND HIS BACK (aggravating any chest wounds) are all clearly visible in the video and it's clear that he would still be alive had they prioritised the dying man on the pavement.

Everything from day one has been deflection, until I see timestamped videos of the police attempting CPR on the guy I'm willing to believe they never actually gave him any medical attention, even though they claimed they gave it "within minutes".

They lied. When they got caught out in their lie they doubled down. When that got caught out they deleted the post about the original lie. I hope it's a nice sunny day today over in Southampton.

It's what our institutions do. They lie reflexively and shamelessly, and they shy away from ever admitting anything. They'll tell you one thing, then the next person something different, then call you insane for ever saying that it happened. It's an occupational government, not a representative one.

In George Orwell's 1984, the past is constantly erased and rewritten to serve the ruling Party's present narrative. Through the Ministry of Truth, the state eliminates objective reality, forcing citizens to reject their own memories and accept state-sanctioned lies as the ultimate truth

This word-image is double plus ungood Mr Rooney.

Had a first responder with trauma experience got to the scene and Nowak been given basic intervention before that, he would likely be alive. A friend of mine from uni was a trauma lead at large Norf FC hospital, before training as a podiatrist, and her take is he could have potentially survived.

It's when he goes from saying he's been stabbed to the agonal breaths, which you can identify if you've had any basic first aid training (I had this for work, and they played us a couple of videos of people dying) that was when it went from serious but survivable to yeah, his goose is cooked, that the prospect changed.

That jeet bastard started it but the police finished the job.

We need a blackpill sticker.

But none of that is happening, we don't live in the dark ages anymore. The Government™ and The Authorities™ have a duty to correctly inform the public about what is and what has happened and that is what is happening. 1984 is nothing but mere fiction that far-right extremists are using as a way to force in hateful politics and frankly this must not stand in our fair and democratic country. What has happened to Henry is very unfortunate and lessons will be learnt over this.

Please however refrain from suggesting that The Government™ and The Authorities™ are doing anything but enacting the law in a lawful manner as to not stir up potential tensions. Thank you.

which you can identify if you've had any basic first aid training
Are they even trained for anything useful these days?

Well, they're given first aid and emergency first aid training, I know that for a fact. Clearly none of it sank in though.

Part of basic first aid training is to follow your gut. We had an incident at work last year and I had one colleague with excruciating stomach pain, and another saying he must have just eaten something iffy. Whole thing felt off so I overrode my colleague and went to A&E with poorly dude. Got him there and made a scene because nobody was taking it seriously, and he ended up going in for emergency surgery to have his appendix out.

You just know when someone is really not okay and you have to speak out if it doesn't feel right, was my main takeaway from my training. And if you're wrong, then fine. But it is better to speak up than to stay silent.

As for the police. They are not your friends and they don't care about you. Don't engage, and never, ever invite them into your home.

They get away with what they do because we don't know our rights and their limitations. Gone are the days of your friendly neighborhood Bobby who knows the area and cares. They hate you and they only care about hurty meanie nono words and the feels of browns.
