It is comical to try and paint this as the status quo, this is an abrupt change in how trump speaks to netanyahu.
I wouldn't be surprised if Trump has been slightly negging on Bibi this entire administration. If I recall correctly he was the first world leader to congratulate Biden on his stolen election.
America's relationship with Israel doesn't benefit it in the slightest.
It has always benefitted us. For the last half century the Middle East was extremely critical to energy security for the US. We were giving Israel light military support in the 60's as an opposition to Soviet influence. In the 1973 OPEC decided to create an oil crisis by embargoing us for the minor military support we were giving Israel. This was a massive problem and really showed how dependent we were on the region.
The response? We gave instead gave significant military aid to Israel, we drew up plans to invade Saudi Arabia to seize their oil fields, and oh Iran started having some insurgency problems a few years later. This started the Middle East Quagmire for the next half a century, not evil Jewish influence, that the towelheads had the power to cripple us through oil embargos, and they decided to fuck around and find out.
Having a close military ally, with a lot of munition compatibility, that had proven their military capability in the area in multiple conflicts, with access to ports and airfields, is much much more valuable than the aid we have given them. The Middle East is very far away and you can't completely operate a war off aircraft carriers. It has been a great deal for us, its an almost invaluable logistical asset we significantly underpaid for. We have/had(they were emptying them out like crazy to give to Ukraine in the Biden administration) a ton of stockpiled munitions in Israel, because we needed to be able to blow up any uppity goatfuckers if they threated
our oil.
And that has changed. The US is almost a peer competitor to the Middle East in Energy production. From what I've read we out produce them in total energy, but that's from a lot of natural gas and not purely oil. The Middle East Quagmire is coming to an end. Trump's administration has been heavily focused on it. From setting up a coalition of business minded countries, setting up Gaza as their responsibility, and taking out Iran's ultimate goal of being able to tax all oil coming out of the region under the protection of nuclear deterrence. Trump is both the first President that had the balls to actually weather the storm of Iran openly threatening shipping in the area, and really the first President that had it as an option with our energy security from domestic production(that he's been pushing for from his first campaign).
Us paying 50-75% more for gas? That's minor, China had to halt some of their production on plastics, India is getting close to being completely out of oil, Third World Shitholes like South Asia, Europe, and California are looking at a dire future if the Straight doesn't open soon. While we are mildly inconvenienced. Probably the biggest global energy crisis of the last few decades, maybe since the 1973 Embargo, and it's a buck or two more per gallon. It's hasn't even as bad as Biden handler's retarded domestic policy yet. A Middle East Embargo isn't the threat it was in the 70's, a heavy military investment in the region isn't important to our national security anymore. We are pulling out.
And Israel knows the military investment will be drying up. Bibi is already talking about how the government needs to plan to budget for it's own military procurement. He knows we're going to stop giving them as much(that they mostly had to use to buy from us anyways), as it winds down over the course of years.
