Nixon was the last truly good POTUS. It already flipped. The only reason for liking Trump was his less crazy anti-Russia stance, and even that was predicated on the very self interested fact that Russia gave us cheap oil.
There's no negotiating when it's all or nothing. There has to be a middle ground for some compromise to be made, and that doesn't exist within the Russian government right now.
There are some key differences between that war and Iran.
Russia has a clearly stated goal, to not allow a reverse Cuba 2.0 and to get the russian territories. Ukraine is a 100 year old country frankensteined from various others.
They are close to Russia, so they can't be allowed to be a threat and there are no long supply lines.
With Iran they are more logistically problematic to invade, unless Trump somehow manages to make his armies teleport. Beside other factors like Iran prepping for this for way longer.
