As we all know, everything that's worth doing requires some variation of knowledge that everyone should know by a certain age and I honestly don't expect a kid to have the life experience to know what they actually need to learn to get ahead with life, especially if you're intentionally turning school into an massively gay art project with participation awards.

There is very much a “if you don’t use it, you lose it” with a lot of functions. To take it a step further, there are millions of kids that never learned how to write a paper on their own.

My work blocked AI for cybersecurity reasons. The interns we had last year would not do their jobs without AI. One intern cried. Another one just quit. Rather than try to figure it out. Keep in mind these were students with at or near 4.0 GPAs in engineering. It was a real eye opener for us. For this summer’s interns, we were up front that AI could not be used so we’ll see how this goes.

I may not be the most articulate writer, but the reason I can write anything without AI holding my hand is precisely because I had the experience, more than once, of trying to write an essay (without spell check!) on a topic I didn't fully understand or care about, while crying, and my mother's response was, "Well you better figure it out, I'm cooking dinner." Normally. I'd agree with you. But I'd expect an college student to be creative enough to be a little bit more resourceful than just using AI as his personal proofreader and research assistant. But after a certain point, do you really need to explicitly taught how to study?

An lot of this is learned behavior, but that's the parent's responsibilities to iron it out before the cops do. One thing that I have noticed is that kids have became more mentally fragile, for some reason. It was shocking to us last year. Our intern program starts next week and as mentioned above we were quite clear with the intern candidates that AI is not an option here.

You can guess the motivation but the jeet plague exists in grad schools (shortcut to H1B status), not at the undergraduate level. Grad school pays/is short and departments make bank on it. Undergrad costs a lot of money and departments don't necessarily get more money for more enrollment.
