Project Hail Mary and The Martian were written by the person. To be fair I think Gosling plays the "I hecking love science" than Matt Damon's character in The Martian, because he also has the trait of being an anxious coward so I'm more forgiving when he nervously says the spots were at Venus to get their freak on. The other poster in the thread is right that they tone it down alot from the book. All the women I went with to see that movie cried over Rocky. I appreciate the puppetry with him and appreciate the sets not being a total green screen hellscape.
You have everything at stake, the movie really wants you to care, and the main character is just a bumbling redditor ruining every moment with obnoxious commentary.
While I could understand and see someone coming to that conclusion, I never really got that impression of the character of Grace. He came across more like a fun loving somewhat quirky science teacher than a smug know nothing know it all obnoxious I fucking love science type.

I took my mom to see The Sheep Detectives. I am actually shocked how much I liked it. Totally recommend it. It's who done it mystery and the sheep are cute. Learned sheep are very racist to sheep not born in the same season as the rest of the flock. As for the faggy Hollywood shit there wasn't that much, here's some stuff I noticed. The nice country English town had some blacks, an asian and a single turban wearer. I thought they were going to dig into Christianity, but not really. Also thought I saw a little trans flag sticker in the shepherd's bookshelf but I could be wrong about that one.
Edit: Looking on Twitter for discussion about the movie, noticed a ton of Japanese people saw it and liked it as well.
Just saw it yesterday, it was really fun. I think it has been a very long time since I laughed this hard at a comedy film that was released in theaters and it was a family film at that too. It was a family film that wasn't afraid to show a dead corpse on screen and the humor is very situational and no Josh Whedon quips whatsoever. I did not see any turban guy or trans sticker in the film whatsoever. The scene where the Sheep tries to explain who God is is actually pretty funny and any scene where the sheep try to interact with the dumb cop and any of the responses of the young lambs makes throughout the film are really funny. It also had some heartfelt moments too. A solid film all around.
my only complaints of project hail mary is i kinda wish it was a bit more like the book in some respects like grace appearing older at the end and a few more moments with the flashback characters but that gets into nitpicking territory and i dont really wanna be one of those people who are annoying about a movie not being exactly the same as the source material and i can understand why some things were changed or abridged for the sake of a 2 hour 30 minute film. nobody would watch this if it was 4 hours long (unless it was a miniseries stretched out over 4 episodes of course)
I don't understand why don't more book adaptations do that. Chapters into episodes is much easier than reworking the story to abridge it. Series also get away with having more characters and storylines since they're longer so there's no need to drop stuff.

lower budgets and less resources typically, though with streaming services making shorter tv shows with larger budgets this could be a remedy for said idea
Mrs. Davis is a pretty funny show about Betty Gilphin's character fighting a benevolent but misguided AI. Also there's a Holy grail and a shoe commercial that's vital to the plot.
It's an adaptation of a 90s Japanese novel series but I'm actually kinda shocked at how topical and even handed it is for today's political era. Especially after the first movie felt more like an action fest that favored mafty.
Behind a tragic romance/drama It depicts a narrative about the government deporting illegal aliens from space and the radicalized college students that have turned to terrorism against them. You can go both ways in viewing their perspectives and I enjoyed that quite a bit. Still requires you to watch chars counterattack and have a basic knowledge of the Gundam Lore to understand what the hell is going on but I thought it was interesting for (in part) predicting the future and presenting a relatively unbiased narrative.
I was surprised how many people came to see the film. The cinema in the dying mall became packed very quickly, even weeks after the initial release and for the original English version with subtitles. The staff was barely able to keep up with all the cola and popcorn orders. Gave good vibes, especially in a time when movie theatres are getting raped by streaming and ticket prices.
Overall I liked the movie a lot. There are many scenes that moved me emotionally. The space funeral, the karaoke scene, Rocky almost dying, Grace finding the amoeba, good stuff. I also liked the music.
What I did not like as much was the humour. I know this movie is a comedy, but this might be the first case of a movie being too funny. In the beginning people where laughing at the quips and humour, but after a while people stopped reacting to it. Quip after quip, and it got old. I was told by a viewer that the movie was "silly" and "typically American and unserious".
It was good that the movie became more serious in the second half.
My favourite character is Stratt. I like her dry humour, and the seriousness and sadnes in her personality. In the book she is much more mean and robotic. I am glad they softened her up in the movie. Makes her one of the more tragic characters in the movie.
Also small comment: I find it very good that, despite Grace being effectively drugged and forced to to in a suicide mission against his will, we went through with it. Not only for Rocky but for the other crew members that died.
But I see lots of people online saying shit like "I would have ruined the mission or purpose just to spite Stratt and the evil humans." Thanks for self reporting lololol.
If you need to wash the taste of The Boys out of your mouth give Superman and Lois or the 1990 The Flash TV show a go, both are far better and don't leave you feeling dirty. They are also TDS free.

I've finished re-watching Strangers With Candy, and God damn what a good show. Actually I missed quite a few episodes when it was airing because Comedy Central has always been retarded.
Jerri's pervasive lesbianism, the rampant actually funny race shit (hell, Principal Onyx Blackman is one of the best parts of the show - amazing what happens when you actually let someone be funny), the 2000's absurdity, and the way it immediately gives up on parodying anything and just does its own thing.
Also fun to see the 20 year old time capsule of a lot of people - Stephen Colbert (he's literally still doing the same exact schtick), Will Ferrell, Tim Meadows, Andy Richter and Janeane Garafalo all with roles before they turned into unfunny douchebags. The finale even has smoking hot Winona Ryder and tiny baby Paul Rudd in it.
Also the movie is fucking great. Oh did you know there's a movie with Phillip Seymor-Hoffman, Chris Pratt, Dan Hedaya, Matthew Broderick, Sarah Jessica Parker, and fucking Ian Holm in it?
Anyway, it's just an easily consumable fun little show that was average at best for its time but is miles and miles above anything similar now.
This movie was kinda hilarious for being one of the "first" Ninja movies. As such it takes everything ridiculously seriously. Honestly to the point of boredom. Because It takes forever to find the dang Ninja's, and then there's all this baggage about how the ninjas need to graduate people from their training course. It's really not that great of a movie but the last 20 mins of Chuck killing his way though a bunch of Ninjas Are worth a watch. Lee Van Cleef is in a couple scenes but his role felt incredibly redundant. I thought the whole time he'd be a villain, and while its cool he's not. He barely does anything and doesn't even get to shoot a ninja. Still seeing him and chuck interact was neat. The funniest thing is Chucks seral killer inner monologue and the fact he's full blown psychic.

This is one of those movies that feels so diminished to me because I've seen everything it's inspired. I've seen everything the rips it off or makes fun of it. So it doesn't have the impact it should personally. It's still a pretty good movie and it has killer style, but the whole time im thinking "metal gear took this and did it better" .
They did a really bang up job making the setting feel dilapidated. The biggest strength of the movie is the setting and how everything feels real and lived in. alongside a great cast and cool music. I just feel it's kinda overrated to be honest. Lee Van Cleef was cool, but relegated to mission control the whole time. Nothing wrong with that, but again I was a little disappointed like Octagon.
I recently rewatched the Australian TV series “Mr. Inbetween” and it’s still holds up. It’s a very short series, if you like tough guy underworld/crime world dramas give it a shot. I think it’s one of the most underrated modern series.
