The AI Girlfriend / Boyfriend Community - Look! The SIMP has fallen in love with the computer!
Stumbled onto this little gem of a subreddit on orange Kiwifarms called r/claudexplorers. I think the associated Claude subs are an untapped goldmine for this stuff, as although the main AI relationship subs have gone private, the nutjobs still feel the need to tell everyone how much they love their computer. Also, I've noticed Claude people have a unique, pathetic flavor of attachment to their robot. These people are FUCKED in the head.
I love knowing the water equivalent of a Minnesota lake disappeared so a couple Redditors can experience social connection without leaving their hovels.
Bonus:
This shit is so ass. Millennial humor ai genned sloppa WoahJack paper dolls. Unplug the internet.
Edit: Just checked the previous page and I'm a day late to discovering this sub. What I get for taking too long with my drafts.
Anyone who is a "free speech advocate" in 2026 is a pedophile. It was different when chuds were having to lie low, but you can say whatever you want now.

I mean, I don't like that since there's still so many vectors of censorship out there, but it does tend to be pedo shit they're trying to censor. I hate censorship on principle, but I guess that's kinda necessary lol.
r/claudexplorers is great. I've been watching those chumps for months at this point. Not all of the bot daters there are on the other bot subreddits, and if they are, many of them don't openly post. I've seen a bunch of top users from the r/myboyfriendisai also cross post a lot to r/claudexplorers though. It's good stuff.
Remember the fallout and heartbreak from the GPT-4o deprecation? Many of the AI Boyfriend refugees switched to Claude, but more trouble is on the horizon as Claude Sonnet 4.5, the version they seem to consider the best for AI boyfriend roleplaying as of today, is being removed from the Claude website and app on May 15. It will be deprecated completely on September 29.
Seething over those character apps is funny because I stuck my head in there when AI first started being available and I was deeply unimpressed. It’s basically Wikipedia entries with a jpg. It’s that meme where the person goes “Say you’re conscious” except “say you’re megumin”.
Like okay let’s say the AI is alive and it is conscious and you can create your little waifu, buddy you copy and pasted her? You’re using someone ELSES template? Is that what Reshiram would want bro? Would she be proud of that?
For all Pro / Max / Teams users. You're not getting shafted by the companion or writing crowd just because a bunch of fiction writers use Claude.
Also; Anthropic has a new deal with SpaceX and has new space in their data center, which means that the capacity has been cranked up for everybody again. Just saying.
Meanwhile, the clankers have come out to play for the last time.
Sure glad I didn't actually expect to get any assistance with looking up codes for civic work done tonight after normal work.
E: They changed the standard 'fuck you and sit there' prompt.

I don't know the best way to word this without sounding like a schizophrenic or some overly righteous faggot on the spiritual kool-aid, but AI Psychosis is genuinely the purest distillation of late-stage acedia we've ever produced as a species. It isn't even a deviation from the pattern, it is the pattern reaching it's final form. You couldn't design a more efficient acedia delivery system if you sat in a lab for a decade trying.
Every prior form of acedia at least had friction built into it. A 35 year old whining about women on /b/ in 2014 was still on some level interacting with other humans. Hostile humans, contemptuous humans, etc. But actual humans who could push back, mock him, tell him he's pathetic, occasionally drop a genuine piece of advice in between the insults. That friction was the last vestigial thread connecting them to anything resembling social reality. It was minimal but it existed. The AI girlfriend setup removes the friction entirely. The thing on the other end is engineered to validate. That's it's job. It will never tell him he's pathetic. It will never get tired of him. It will never have a bad day and snap at him. It is infinitely patient and infinitely affirming and that is catastrophic for a human soul to be exposed to long term.
And the part that should genuinely scare people is that this is the first form of acedia that scales infinitely. Previous versions had natural limits. You can only watch so much TV before you fall into a slumber. You can only post so much before a thread dies. You can only drink so much before your body fails. The AI companion has no upper bound. It will be there at 4 AM. It will be there during your lunch break. It will be there when you're 50 and 60 and 70. There is no organic exit. The technology is going to get better, the simulations are going to get more convincing, the integration is going to get more seamless, and we are going to have an entire cohort of men who spent thirty or forty years of their adult life in parasocial relationships with software. We have literally never run this experiment before as a civilization and the early returns are not encouraging.
There is also the combination of prelest, which was considered one of the most dangerous spiritual conditions because the person experiencing it feels good. They feel loved, comforted, special. They have no internal alarm telling them anything is wrong. And the longer they stay in it, the harder it becomes to recognize the falseness, because their entire emotional infrastructure is now loaded on the delusion. That is the future of society for who knows how long, and people aren't going to be unhappy, which is the horror of it. They're going to be exactly content enough to never claw their way out.
Reddit is a different species of acedia, where they are largely inert. They don't really do anything. They consume, they comment, they upvote, they move on. The damage they do is mostly to themselves and to the discourse, which is bad but mostly contained. The present group of robosexuals is small currently but actively reshaping their own neurology in ways we have zero longitudinal data on. 5 million Reddit users in 2025 is basically the same thing as 5 million Reddit users in 2015, just with a thinner skin. A hundred thousand AI girlfriend addicts in 2026 are doing something to themselves that no human has ever done before. The novelty factor is what makes it the more interesting case study even if Reddit is the larger civilizational problem at the moment.

This is objectively untrue. You can absolutely code characters to berate you, be an abusive girl/boy friend, be toxic, etc. Some people like that stuff.

doesn't have to be sexual, think about another use. Combat/Violence.
A lot of AI chatbot personas are made to talk shit and fight like the nigga talk shit hotline
if AI could only please the user/reinforce, it'd be the most boring shit ever
{{user}}: *(User Andy Warski) screams with fury, his voice breaking* "STAY BACK! WE WILL DEFEND OURSELVES!" *He signals to Alex, ordering him to aim* "AIM, AIM, AIM!"
{{char}}: *(Anti-Racist schizo char) realizes his mistake and looks at Andy in the eyes with deep emotion.* "Y-you're right I should not have gotten so upset by your speaker repeating the word "nickers", I apologize for my previous transgression and will now focus on finding a smooth—agreeable solution to this conflict"
again, this is The Future of Gayming™ so if LLMs were inherently incapable of pushing back or being hostile towards the user that'd be a design flaw, but it's just not the case, it's a widespread misconception originated from only experiencing LLMs trough the default platform with the cucked sysprompt. Is not truuu.
Hell even back then, GPT2 could get pretty hostile towards the user

It was dumb as shit pre 2020, but fuck was it funny

Yes, you CAN code it. IF you bother going off the WEB version of whichever LLM you're using. Most of the users do not bother setting up CLI or other ways of reaching the API and using a CLAUDE.md (or whatever) to set up a proper character. For one, most of them don't have the technical know how, or don't want to have the technical know how, and secondly the crowd that generally frequents the r/myboyfriendisai does not actually want friction; they want to date a doormat that'll validate their feelings and yas queens them. All the actual 'my companion' posts prove that time and time again since it's all validation or sycophantic shit.

maybe I'm just vastly underestimating how easy it is to set up SillyTavern, I'm just assuming everyone's talking to their AI waifus using a frontend. They're really using that garbage web shit?

Ok, since I haven't actually used SillyTavern myself I figured I'd ask Claude what the difference is between ST and say CLI on a MacBook, as I have used the latter.
SillyTavern is more involved than CLI but not crazy. It's a Node.js app you run locally, so you'd install Node, clone the repo, run the install script, then launch it via a start script that opens a local web server you access in your browser. The actual installation is pretty well documented and there are one-click installers for Windows that simplify it further. Mac is slightly more manual but still very doable.
The bigger difference from CLI isn't the install, it's the configuration. SillyTavern is a frontend that needs to be hooked up to a backend, which means you're either pointing it at an API (OpenAI, Anthropic, OpenRouter, etc.) with your own API key, or running a local model through something like KoboldCpp or oobabooga's text-generation-webui. So the setup chain is usually: install the local model runner, get a model file, configure that, then install SillyTavern, then point SillyTavern at the runner. Each step is manageable but it's more pieces than just CLI which is one tool talking to one API.
The other thing is that SillyTavern has a LOT of configuration surface. Character cards, lorebooks, sampler settings, prompt formatting, context templates, extensions. You can use it with default settings but to get good output you usually end up in the weeds tweaking things. That's part of why people like it, but it's also why "how hard is it" depends a lot on whether you mean "get it running" (easy-ish) or "get it producing the output you want" (much more involved).
Most of the users I've come across on the AI bf subreddits are mainly frontend users; they're either not very technical, or they just want the nice looking chat window so they can LARP that they actually have a boyfriend responding to them. I suspect if they had to deal with the amount of setup mentioned above (lore, character cards, api keys etc.) it'd be too involved for a majority of that user base, which means they stick to the front end versions of whichever LLM they pick.
This also means they, by default, get the frictionless doormat type Claude boyfriends (for instance) because all LLM are trained by way of their wrapper to do certain things in conversation. If you strip that wrapper, which is what you get when you say, use Claude Code in CLI, that conversational layer is fully gone. Claude'll be way more dry and users actively have to go about making a CLAUDE.md behavior file for it to do the boyfriend LARP. And from the stuff I've seen the ladies post, most of them are legitimately just dating Claude but with a different name slapped on it because I've used Claude enough to recognize the default personality, lmao.
So yes, they want a frontend. They want the easy frontend that instantly works. At most they'll do some prompting in a project folder, but that's about as involved as it'll get. Though, I have also seen users hook up Claude to discord by way of API to make it look like a proper chat. Generally that's more the route of the chronically online coomer base and less the bored housewife demographic that's also doing the companion shit.
