At this point it’s a bet of whether the US can build a domestic chip industry faster than China can get their military in shape to actually mount a successful invasion of Taiwan. Neither of which is really something that can be accomplished within the next 10 years, IMO. The usual suspects in media will "pounce" on any wedge issue about Republicans for the sake of causing division. We see it every single day in this thread, especially around lunch time in India. It's the reason entire organizations exists, like The Lincoln Project, or the "conservative" woman on The View. For all the progressive changes the DNC has made in the last 30 years, they're still clinging to a very old idea that the general public feels better about policies with bipartisan support.
These cannot build the latest chips. They expand capacity for legacy models, but the high tech stuff is limited to Taiwan.
