Heck, if I could have gone back in time to when the Constitution was written would have put in a system where there were no elections whatsoever, that all offices at all levels were filled by a drawing of those eligible through age, physical condition, and no felony convictions. You could only be selected as President or Vice-President if you had first completed a term as a state governor, a US Senator, or a US Representative. Selections would be staggered to ensure continuity. Presidents and Vice-Presidents would be selected at different times, for example. There would be maximum ages for selection - this way, you wouldn't have fossils like so many currently in office. And you served only one term in the office selected to. Once you completed your term as President, you were no longer eligible to be selected to any other office, you had your turn in the barrel. A little oversimplified but believe this would work better than the present system.
