I will be fair. You will sooner or later while either reading or listening to a book have a lapse of attention and misread/hear or skim over a bit. Less of an English comprehension issue and more of an inevitable attention one. It should go without saying that it is way less annoying to just read that sentence again instead of having to wind back the audiobook half a minute or more to make sure you actually got it that time. Shit, that happens to me with audiobook versions of stuff that I read before.

You might as well just not bother at all if you aren't going to give it your full undivided attention. Humans are not good multi-taskers. We can really only focus on one thing at a time.

An audiobook is a worse experience, with the narrator putting his own opinion how a character reacts and sometimes cuts entire parts of the book so it flows better. You also never go back to reread previous parts, and if you misunderstood something you basically need to continue misunderstanding.

Yeah it's different, but it can be similarly good. My favorite audiobook was Dune with a full cast. The Baron Harkonnen was voiced by a James Earl Jones esque VA, and it was really good.

With me, it's more like watching colored smoke in the dark. Ever-shifting, lacking detail, and faded. Seems I'm somewhere towards the middle of aphantasia to hyperphantasia.
