US Minnesota bill would penalize cities that fly old state flag

L | A

Eight Minnesota DFL lawmakers have proposed a bill that would penalize cities and counties that do not fly the 2024 Minnesota state flag.

"The commissioner of revenue must reduce the aid to a county or city ... ten percent if the county or city flies or otherwise makes use of a state flag other than the design of the state flag as certified in the report of the State Emblems Redesign Commission," the proposal says.

State DFL Rep. Mike Frieberg is one of the authors of the bill.

"I've been a little disappointed in the cities around Minnesota that have been kind of manufacturing this culture war over this state flag," said Freiberg. "I felt like it was important for there to kind of be a statement legislatively in support of the new state flag, which is the official state flag."

Republican House Speaker Lisa Demuth, who is also running for Minnesota governor, says the bill has no chance.

"That bill is dead on arrival. There is no way this bill is moving through," said Demuth. "To know that Democrats are trying to take funding away from our police and fire, from our cities, it's ridiculous. We have real work that could help Minnesotans."

On Monday, the Inver Grove Heights City Council voted to fly the old state flag on city property after more than an hour of public comment, joining other cities across the state, including Elk River, Champlin, Zumbrota and Plainview, in doing so.

Inver Grove Heights officials expect the switch back to the old flag will cost around $500 and take a few weeks to complete.

In 2023, the Legislature, which was DFL-controlled at the time, created a flag commission tasked with redesigning the flag and the state seal. The newly created symbols took effect in 2024. Freiberg helped lead the effort as lawmakers criticized the flag design and depiction of Native Americans.

"The old flag is not only kind of boring but also kind of racist," Freiberg said.

Demuth says the flag commission's decision process didn't truly represent people across the state.

"They felt as Minnesotans, they were disrespected in the process and everyone I have talked to wants the old flag back or at least a choice in the matter," she said.

The redesign commission said it heard over 20,000 public comments and considered more than 2,000 designs.

"We heard from thousands of Minnesotans as part of the flag process. It's the job of the Legislature to choose the state symbols. That's what we did. We followed the process," Freiberg said.

Who selected the flag:

Robert 'Deuce' Larsen, Minnesota Indian Affairs Council (MIAC) - Dakota Community
Aaron Wittnebel, Minnesota Indian Affairs Council (MIAC) - Ojibwe Community
Michael Harralson, Governor - General Member of the Public (Chief Trial Judge for the Lower Sioux Indian Community)
Shelley Buck, Governor - General Member of the Public (Democrat, resident of Owámniyomni Okhódayapi, a Dakota-led community organization working on restoring Bdóte)
Darkly comical that Natives are volunteering to be replaced by Somalis.

Holy shit, it really is a Somalian flag!

In 2023 when the flag comission did the thing, the population of Minnesota was... 5.7 million? So assuming each comment was from a unique person, 20k/5.7M people is... 0.35% of the state were involved in the state flag process. Just over a third of a percent.

This is just the 99.5% of the state that did not have any input in the flag speaking up.

Yes, I know I'm counting babies in the population when I do that math. No, I don't find it unfair. If the alleged point is to make a flag even children can draw, children are relevant. They can cry at their parent to put up """THEIR FLAG""" if they give a fuck. If they don't, well, they made the flag for babies, when even babies don't care.

Fly the old flag, and tell them to get fucked when they try to penalize you. Literally ignore them, and then shoot them if they try to arrest you for it.

Only 23% of the state liked the new flag. You didn't even ask the rest of the state for a vote...

You goyim are gonna learn your fucking place one way or another.

Don't worry, the DFL is okay with you pledging allegiance to faggotry.

The State Seal flags have sovl. The new flags are all gay corpo globohomo slop.
The state seals are great as seals. Still, they're butt ugly as flags. They're way too noisy. See: Virginia.

Of course, the opposite is the boring, indistinguishable euro-style tricolors.

Regardless, racism is a retarded reason to change the flag.

You occasionally get people griping about Maryland's state flag for racism.

Maryland's state flag is a combination of two historical coats of arms associated with the state.

Maryland was a border state during the Civil War and you had Marylanders fighting on both sides. The yellow and black was associated with Union troops and the red and white with Confederate troops.

The flag was an attempt at reconciliation and unity. But you still get people whining about including the Confederate part.

Thankfully my fellow Marylanders are massively egotistical and no one would risk fucking with the flag. As much as we love our blacks, we'd probably lynch a spook if they went after the flag.

Our retarded governor called it a "contradiction" and people were immediately chimping out.

"Good flag, bad flag" by Ted Kaye and the merry band of Autistic fags at the American vexillogical society has been a disaster for the human race. The Corporate Memphis Learned Elders of the flag world.

"Ew nooo! It's too bad ass and complex!! It needs to be able to he drawn by an 80iq bulbhead in social studies class so they feel more invested in our post national society!! It's gotta be geometric birds and rivers an shiet (an extremely unique quality of Minnesota)!!"

So, collectively? How many NO KINGS protests were attended by the very SAME people who are now saying to revise your own history by government decree or pay the price?

Here's the flag of the city of Monterey, CA. One of the ugliest flags I have ever seen. I wouldn't even wipe my ass with this rag.

If this shit law is actually enacted then don't fly any state flag at all. The law as presently written prescribes no penalties for not flying a state flag.

That'll go well with the Somalians. They should have asked how that turned in Dearborn and Hamtramck.
It probably(?) won't affect them. Article says it doesn't force you to put a flag up, it just prohibits you from taking it down or forcing someone else to take it down.

Its probably just CYA to try to avoid it being coerced speech and sneaking it past the courts, but in theory if the flag never goes up, it never gains protection.

Looking at how quick they chase off citizen journalists, they'll probably just do everything in an unsupervised bubble where the flags never go up in the first place. And they'll find a way to get paid for it too. Is there a charter school voucher system they can milk like the daycares?

A national or state flag should be distinctive but simple enough that a schoolchild can draw it with crayon.
Retarded plebbit tier take. A flag should look good, we shouldn’t have to tone it down so DEI downies can scribble it in crayon.

All the state flags that are just the state seal slapped on a rectangle are ugly as shit.

Still, they did this just because injuns are racist or something.
Never forget that we removed the Indian woman from Land of Lakes butter... but we made damn sure to keep the land for ourselves.
