Obama was signaling and inserting himself as a kind of moral/racial authority figure on Ferguson before the facts were established. It was an endorsement of their behavior because this was a ‘true and honest’ civil rights crusade. The tan suit, associated with the back Southern preacher aesthetic, signaled to the nation that Obama was about to play that role again because Brown was a victim who dindu nuffin.

Obama already had issues of prejudging outcomes and making tensions worse because he primed the public for an outcome that would never come. Obama had previously been criticized for saying “if I had a son, he'd look like Trayvon” during the Zimmerman case, before the investigation ended and before Zimmerman’s acquittal. Obama would always align with victims regardless of their suspected guilt.

Its the optics of how he presented himself that carried weight beyond the suit itself.
Republicans were tapdancing around explicitly calling this out because this was two years after Romney and the party was more filled cucks than it is now and was buck broken.
