That is not precisely what he said. He said he would stop any ships paying the Iranian toll. Basically he's one upping the Iranians by saying "You don't control the strait, I control the strait." Either way, expect oil prices to skyrocket because Iran says they will attack any ships not following their rules, and the USA say's it will attack any ships following Iran's rules.
The traffic through the strait is next to nothing already, that's what's "driving inflation across the globe"
