You have multiple areas that you can easily lie about and never commit to, just there for the taking, and the one big one that you can't easily lie about, the Strait, can still maybe have some sanctions relief worked through.
But no, you're so fucking stupid and so fucking arrogant that you demand loud and proud for nearly an entire day of talking to be allowed a nuclear weapon, something Trump and the entire admin have said is their reddest of red lines.

Yeah, I suspect Vance went there with two explicit hard lines--give up your nukes and stop tolling the strait. Trump probably was flexible with their proxies and missile stocks as "issues we've agreed to discuss down the line." The IRGC probably suspected the reps would give in on this, which means at least one and probably both issues are actually desperation maneuvers on their part, because they can't actually hold the country together with their most of their top guys having been wiped. At least the optimistic part of me wants to believe that. It could just be that they know if they don't wait out the US, there's going to be a reckoning from their own people for all their bullshit the last four decades.

Their economy literally will not survive the next few months without sanctions being removed. They can try to toll the Strait or force people to pay in Chinese funny money all they want. And that's not even counting the water shortage.
They've completely destroyed their country both financially and agriculturally, and they've just thrown away their absolute last chance to save themselves.

Even with the IRGC cartel snooping around, I can’t imagine the Nu-Iran government is as stupid as the ‘01 Taliban. Clearly Iran has been convinced that it can squeeze America for better, with the nuclear issue and its threat of sustained conflict in the Middle East being used as the presser.

Trump II’s government is entering the five stages of grief, with Trump enjoying bread and circuses while Vance vague posts about no deal being worse for Iran.

Even if a “good peace” is made by some

I'm guessing the initial "4-6 week" timeline has pretty much been thrown out by the ceasefire, how long will this second go-around last this time?, I'm thinking that this is not going to last until October or the Trump admin got trapped into really deep shit.

To be fair it actually is a negotiation tactic.

The cost of some type of bargain is more preferable to the array of costs involved in bombing their infrastructure and/or committing to nuke removal.

So it’s a rational choice for us to continue to keep this as an open option.


But at the same time, we know this is what they like to do. They seem more willing to remain and become even more economically destitute due to the strait closing than we are willing to tolerate higher gas (and inflation).

Letting this drag on without maximum pressure (short of a ground invasion) is silly. We need to just bomb the infrastructure and see how things shake out.

Petersen out of the Strait of Homos earlier today, when Trump and the official CENTCOM Twitter were saying they made it through with no problems, then Iran would surely have drone footage to release & embarrass the Americans with (as it would easily prove the latter were lying). But no, they couldn't even be assed to whip up some AI videos of their drones doing that. Anyone who still buys this shit probably thought Assad actually had infinitely spawning paratroopers ready to encircle the Syrian rebels the day before they chased him out of Damascus too.
