Vucic warns of Third World War risk over competition for resources
Serbia's president has warned that the race for raw materials and nuclear rearmament are heightening the risk of a full-scale war

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has warned that the world is drifting toward a Third World War amid escalating international tensions. According to Vucic, such a conflict may have already begun, even if it has not been officially declared, the Berliner Zeitung reports.
"It will be difficult to prevent a Third World War. It may have already begun, but we are just not talking about it officially yet," Vučić noted.
He stated that the primary driver of the escalation is the struggle for strategic resources, including oil, gas, rare earth metals, and other raw materials. He emphasized that competition for access to these resources, along with control over key logistical routes, is intensifying conflicts between nations.
"The battle for oil, gas, minerals, rare metals, and other resources began long ago," the Serbian president added.
Vučić warns that this confrontation heightens the risk of a direct military clash, including between nuclear-armed states. He also did not rule out the potential use of tactical nuclear weapons in future conflicts.
According to him, many countries are currently trying to buy time while simultaneously preparing for potential large-scale military conflict.
The Serbian president pointed out that both World War I and World War II originated as local crises that eventually escalated into global conflicts.
His remarks come amid intensifying calls for European rearmament. Earlier, the defense chiefs of Germany and the UK, Carsten Breuer and Richard Knighton, urged European nations to bolster their military capabilities in response to escalating threats.
