Marco has been minimally involved with Iran, this is mostly military, and he is not focused on the Middle East really. He is really almost all western hemisphere + Europe.

I also remind people that foreign policy never wins elections (ask George HW Bush in 92, who thought he could win on it). Marco is boring and uninspiring domestically (does he even care about domestic politics?), his 'signature issue' before was pushing for amnesty. I like him in foreign policy, but that's really it. Outside of it, he's a return to George W. Bush.

Vance gave a really good speech in Michigan the other day, he is much better at domestic empathy than Rubio. I cannot even envision Rubio giving such a speech.

What I keep telling people -

1. Vance and Rubio will not run against each other
2. Rubio will not leave the Sec of State office early, which is practically a requirement if he were running for President.

The answer is that they have to be the ticket. Some people have a hate boner for Vance that I don't understand, and I keep telling them, Rubio doesn't sell domestic policy well. What he really wants is to be Sec of State forever, the job he's always wanted.

I would not read that much 4d chess into it. Trump expected Iran to see the overwhelming power the USA possesed and capitulate like the Venezuelans. But the Venezuelan government is not an apocalypse cult that believes in idiocy like "strategic martyrdom".

Are there really any other options beyond delaying the inevitable, potentially putting us into an even worse conflict?

The idea is either the saner portions of the country take control, or we destroy their industry so that they're too poor to be a concern for a generation or two.
