Lebanon is such a shit show that I'm starting to think a Israeli annexion would be the best thing to happen for the Christian Lebanese population (don't care for the muslim ones, put them in Syria).

Only in some kind of peacekeeper actions, he won't fully engage in the war.


Lebanon is a French colonial creation and it still has strong ties with France, it's not surprising to see Macron trying to keep them far from an Israeli control.


Lebanon was great when it was the Christian paradise of Middle East. The only way to make it that way again would be to remove them, if anything Israel isn't killing enough of them.

Some sort of partition to restore Lebanon's original borders would be more preferable to & probably a lot more realistic than Israeli annexation of the whole place, since the Lebanese Christians aren't in any shape to Deus Vult the whole place themselves anymore. The borders of 'Lebanon' used to be smaller, more compact & more stable with a secure Christian supermajority, like so:



However after the Ottomans collapsed and the French took over, the new colonial authorities expanded said borders to include a bunch of obviously non-Christian areas, heavily diluting said pre-WW1 Christian majority from 75-80% of the population (with Maronites comprising the largest share) to barely above 50%, IOW setting up the conditions for a sectarian civil war pitting the Christians (who wouldn't have wanted to lose their previously dominant status) against everyone else. Great for making Lebanon easier to control by outside forces that can play all these groups against one another, hellish when said control is lost and the fraying social system is put under too much stress, as evidenced by the civil war.

Christians are still mainly concentrated in the Mount Lebanon area to this day, so the original Mutasarrifate borders would make the most sense for a stable Lebanese Christian state. Israel clearly is gearing up to eat the Shiite-heavy south, where Hezbollah is strongest and which they did occupy previously anyway. AJ's Syria will probably want the Sunni-heavy north (and Lebanese Sunnis apparently do like that guy for being a successful Sunni warlord if what I've seen of them flying Syrian flags, as recorded in the Syrian Civil War/Syria and Lebanon subreddits both, is any indicator), IDK. There's your smaller, stabler and more religiously (Christian) homogeneous but still independent Lebanon, folks.

Hezbollah could not join the war October 2023 because they were involved in the Syrian war and trying to keep Assad's side from collapse (which is would do in November of 2024).

The Syrian civil war was cold in 2023-it restarted in November 2024. Assad had most of the territory back except Idlib and Deir Ezzor. Hezbollah had more than enough soldiers in Lebanon to join in. They didn’t die to domestic Lebanese politics. Namely their Shia constituents in southern Lebanon didn’t want them too, and their political position in the government was already shaky.
