"I’m still against war with Russia. Here’s the main difference: The current Iranian regime has been in power since 1979. One of their first actions after taking power was to take our diplomats hostage. This alone tells you what kind of dishonorable retards have been in charge of Iran for 47 years: The kind that don’t respect diplomatic immunity, and will terrorize embassy workers to get what they want.
If that was it, it’s been 47 years, we can let it go, but there has not been a decade that has went by when they have not directly targeted our soldiers and our interests. They have waged a guerrilla campaign against us their entire regime’s existence. I do not care whether you liked what America was doing in some of these cases, it was not directly assailing Iran, and in many cases it killed our civilians with no concern. Once again, this is not an honorable regime.
We cannot trust these people to have offensive weapons capable of power projection. Blame Israel all you want, but even if Nick Fuentes became President, they’d still hate us and think we’re a Satanic entity and their Millenarian ideology would compel them to attack us.
Russia clearly is a geopolitical adversary, but they have evaded direct attacks on our troops and our civilians. They have not given us any direct reason to go to war with them. They have studiously avoided doing so because they respect things like diplomatic immunity, acts of war, etc. Iran does not. Our conflict is indirect and must be waged in a similarly indirect, honorable manner. They have nukes and we have long decided to respect that. By isolating them we can make a deal without direct confrontation and we can trust the deal just like we did the Soviet Union."

I mean technically they can/do because of hazard pay, tax free pay on deployment, and potential other bonuses, but generally that might only be a few hundred extra bucks a month at most, and it's not all the time or a for sure thing.

From the expat iranians I've spoken to they're waiting for the Shah to tell them it's ok to go out. I know westerners don't believe this but domestically they like him. He's the only person who's not associated with the regime, and at this point anyone who's not associated with the regime is good.
