I know a few people that got deployed to Kuwait and they had nothing but good things to say about it.

I wonder if you could apply to specific jobs that have a realistic chance of never seeing action, like they have a job listing of shit that just sounds boring but well paying.

That's not really how it works, different branches have different processes, but for the most part you apply for a range of jobs and hope you get the one you want. Combat jobs essentially all require you to apply for them specifically though, so it's not like anybody is signing up unaware that they could end up as a war fighter.

Also, pay ranges are based on rank through out the entire armed forces, so it doesn't matter if you're an EOD troop spending half your year down range risking getting blown up every day, or if you're a logistics troop stacking boxes in Alabama, if your both E3's you're both getting paid the same.

Russia needs Trump to strong-arm Ukraine into surrending land.

Russia embarrassing Trump over Iran is a fast track to get Trump to stop pressuring Kiev, and instead end up with Tomahawks and thousands of Bradleys in Ukrainian hands.

Also Russia would still need to use a discreet third party because the US functionally has air superiority in Iran and would have a much easier time inderdicting weapons shipments.
