Jokes aside, I think a contributing factor was that there were wide scale and very publicized anti-regime protests back in January, to which the Iranian military responded to by turning off the internet and massacring thousands. Estimates are anywhere between 7,000 to 30,000. The actual kickoff was a target of opportunity when most of the leadership got together int he same building and got yidded.
