The thing I hate about war, is that it's the Elite using their human capital as toys in petty games. Those that want war, those that direct it and benefit from it, rarely have to experience the horror and suffering of it.
I'm not full pacifist, I think you have to have a strong military to self govern, and that military is a tool that has to be used to be maintained. The cost of war is the countries future. It is their potential future of working men and what's gained from it much be much greater than what is lost, and the cost grows exponentially while the gain is logarithmic. England expended too much of their human capital in the World Wars. They lost generations of brave and capable men, they won the war and lost their empire, and it's continuing to their culture and soon they're people.
What I really respect about Trump is that he doesn't play the game of nations where they expensive their human capital for petty gains. He's kills the people in charge. Maduro is lucky so much was expended to capture him alive rather than just eating a munition. That's largely unheard of. Killing elites has a taboo to it like nuclear weapons. If you target heads of powerful states, that breaks the taboo of you being targeted. So the Elites send their youth to die like game pieces in the thousands. But they already are trying to kill Trump, inside and out of the country, and sees the costs of war, perhaps only as a business man, and doesn't want to spend it in pretty conflicts a world away
