WSJ went over the state of the Trump economy: Unemployment is down because of deportations and the stock market came in strong as expected, economic growth is acceptable, due to stock market gains. Trade deficit will improve with tariffs and manufacturing will take off this summer bearing everything works out, but everything else, job market, housing affordability, inflation, things that matter to voters, need serious work. So far theres been no talk about how he plans to improve the job market beyond deportations, no further slowing of visas or how to improve the labor market for college graduates. Additionally theres been no communication to combat the labor markets real fear of AI.

I should also add, the fact that the housing market continues to stall will show up in other factors of the economy. Home Depot is reporting lower earnings due to lack of new homeowners and existing ones using their money to pay down debt, not renovating their house.

The student debt crisis will also become more of a national issue. Biden just covered it up with moratoriums instead of addressing the root issue, but the real concern is zoomers can't get good jobs to pay down the debt in the first place. The issue extends far beyond just theatre kids and psych majors. You can't tell a whole cohort of people with 6-figure debt that their degrees are useless and learn to trade. If they had been prepared, it would have been fine, but its a huge betrayal now.

You can't extract taxes or government loans from NEETS who doomscroll all day and do doordash, so eventually that student loan debt is going to get added to the national deficit. Corporations need to pay their fair share not with taxes, but hiring Americans and making offshoring prohibitively expensive.

The loan debt needs to be made dischargeable via bankruptcy. However doing this, if Trump even can, will kill the modern higher education system. Some of us (myself included) might think this is a good thing (it is), but doing so is going to put a lot of otherwise useless college professor and admin types out of work as universities restructure to the new paradigm. Which is bad for the job market. We already have enough grocery baggers. We really don't need anymore. This kills a lot of the indoctrination centers, which is good long term politically, but short term it'll hurt economically.

You're asking questions that not even the British, the French (in Pondicherry), or the Portuguese (in Goa) could solve. The British managed to make the Hindus stop burning widows on funeral pyres, but they couldn't prune everything. In reality, I think we are in this weird market where it should be a buyer's market, but Boomers will cling for dear life on selling their homes as high as they can, likely never selling till death hits them. The whole market is wildly fucked by circumstances that largely shouldn't exist between Boomer hard-headiness, illegals, and government programs all working to keep costs high when it shouldn't be under normal circumstances.

Probably. A large chunk of the market was the illegals now being deported, and the now somewhat slashed programs. The entire market will really teeter solely on Boomers and whether they will give up housing and take a low offer. I mean, re-shored manufacturing should help the job market, so it isn't just deportations.

A big issue is that the central economy has been built as a service economy, and almost exclusively around tech. Tech is easily the most unreliable business to base the economy on currently, given that it is a lot of floundering businesses built on questionable cash and investments. Even without the H1B and A.I. issues, the industry has long been falling into the gutter since 2020. Trump will need to build around the space, which is the core of the problem. It is why the reshoring efforts are a lot more crucial.

We need a wider net of economic markets, something I believe Trump is aware of and working towards, even if not stated the best. I personally just don't know if people can wait or if things will truly pan-out.

Democrats outpace Republicans in first week of early voting turnout in North Texas​

DALLAS - After a week of early voting for Texas primaries, the turnout shows more Democrats have voted than Republicans in several North Texas counties.

What we know:

Voter turnout in the 2026 Texas primaries has been a big talking point for both parties. After a week of early voting, the numbers in both Dallas County and Tarrant County show that Democrats have cast more votes than Republican voters.

Dallas County early voting numbers​

Dallas County has seen nearly 78,000 Democrats cast a vote through six days of early voting. That's more than three times as many votes cast by Democrats in the same period in both 2022 and 2024 early voting.

Republican voters also saw a slight increase from 2024 turnout, with more than 15,000 casting early votes through six days.

Tarrant County early voting numbers​

Tarrant County is a similar story. The typically Republican-held county saw nearly 56,000 Democrats vote in the first week of early voting, a significant increase from 2024 numbers.

Republicans also saw an increase in early voter turnout from 2024, but still trailed Democrat voters by more than 10,000 votes over the first six days.

The surge in Democrats voting early in Tarrant County comes in the wake of Democrat Taylor Rehmet winning a runoff election for a Texas Senate seat in January.

"I have 100% confidence that they will both be at the table doing everything they can to make sure that the entire Democratic ticket is performing and winning elections," Scudder said. "I'll remind you. This is not the dirtiest primary we have seen in Texas. I would argue that the Republican primary on the other side right now is much nastier."

Cornyn warns GOP voters​

Recently, Republican Senate candidate John Cornyn warned GOP voters they could lose the Senate seat he's held since 2002 if voters choose Ken Paxton as their candidate.

"I think I am a lot more effective than I was when I first started. Thank God I am healthy," the senator said. "I love my job, I love this great state, and I am not willing to stand on the sideline and see it destroyed by nominating a flawed candidate like Ken Paxton."

Despite outspending Paxton in the race, Cornyn is trailing in the polls. Regardless, he told FOX 4 he's still in the battle.

"The election is still in front of us. The campaign continues," Cornyn said. "This is the first time the attorney general has come out of his basement to confront the public."

Early voting will continue through Feb. 27, with election day on March 3.
