Well it's more complicated than that; point is that while in most regions other than maybe Iran or Saudi Arabia publicly harassing a person just for "being gay or trans" probably isn't tolerated, but at the same time I see it regarded pretty much on common sense that a middle-aged man who suddenly "discovers" he's a woman after being dumped by his wife has some pretty obvious mental issues - based on common sense reasons rather than "right-wing" political reasons".
