Not to derail the thread too much, but for the last half a decade or so it's been the Rogansphere (Joe Rogan and his unfunny friends) who've taken that unfunny political "comedy" mantle. All these guys moving to Austin and making shitty podcasts has been very lucrative especially as many of them started pandering more to MAGA (more so from a "We're just dudes talking to everyone, bro, listen to me say 'crash out' like the kids" angle than an actual capital-C Conservative angle to be fair) often getting Trump on their shows.

The mainstream left wing comedians of the 2000s (Stewart and Colbert primarily) that were on TV were partisan hacks who (the former especially) constantly hid behind "It's a comedyyyyyy shooooow" and disingenuous key jingling to peddle their bullshit, but at least they were occasionally funny, and their sucking off of politicians was slightly more honest almost.

not to get into it but there are tons of conservative comedians such as Shane Gillis and Kill Tony and legion of skanks (each host was named proudboy of the month back in the 2010s)

the problem is that if you get too funny then the left will try to pretend you're not conservative anymore or that you were cancelled at all. If you want proof, look up any of Roseanne's stand up acts in the 80s and 90s and compare them to her comedy stand up acts in the last few years. She was one of the funniest women comedians in her time, and now all she does is make unfunny woke jokes. It's sad to see because she had some real talent in her glory days.
