Yu-Gi-Oh! / Duel Monsters - RIP Dueling Network and YGOPro

See, I follow Mkohl40, House of Champs, APS, and Galzo also this strict Branded player MetaGamesGX. I miss BladeYGO, his analysis on cards and metas was fantastic.

Joshua Schmidt is fantastic for insight. I like Jesse, but Josh is just an easier listen tbh.

TeamSamarai is absolutely a shark. A guy I know played him at a YCS and said he was a horrible opponent. Kept shuffling his hand loudly and kept announcing what the guy was doing. I have bumped into Ruggles, and whilst a bit soapy, he was a really sound guy. He was a really chill opponent, and you can tell he really loves the game. I really like APS his group is sound, his podcast is fun too.

He would also openly talk about how in 3v3s he would often ask his teammates stupid questions in an attempt to throw off his oppenent. Like he would turn to Pak and ask "Yo, should I Ash this?" every time his opponent was about to search something. While I guess it's technically legal if you actually have an Ash and are talking to your teammates, there's a reason volunteering information about your hand to your opponent is against the rules.

Absolute irredeemable slop at this point. He doesn't even write his own scripts or edit his own videos anymore. He tried to outsource reading the script too, but the comments got mad at him so he stopped trying. Why I find this upsetting is becuase his videos actually had interesting information that highlighted cards I never would have thought about or never heard about. Some of his writers, Victor Guildford in particular are so shit, it's unreal. If you've ever wondered why some of his videos ended up sounding like a Buzzfeed article, here's why.
Glad I am not the only one. Watched a few of his newest videos out of bordem recently and yeah, they're not good. I also noticed he stopped making Master Duel videos as well, which I really enjoyed because he made janky decks that he still managed to succeed with. I stopped when he kept doing collabs with literal who vtubers, but it wasn't long before he stopped entirely. Something happen or did he get lazy and bored?

Jesse came off as a fag at first to me, but I've warmed up to him.
I almost take what Josh says as gospel, but he isn't always correct. Recent example was calling Azimina White Forest a slop deck. Otherwise his ideal YuGiOh is close to what I want to see as well.

You don't want a top 10 list of the worst Rank 7 WATER Machine monsters with green backgrounds?
Has genuinely good takes and probably puts more thought into his arguments than most. I still don't know what the hell he means by "midcore" though.
I always understood the definition of "midcore" being a player who wants to play to win but doesn't necessarily want to play the best (and often prohibitively expensive) decks out there. There's a million of these decks that get released (RB, Kewl Tune, Ashened) or get support in newer packs (Synchrons, R-ACE, Mikanko, Exosister) that just get absolutely stomped by the meta decks. Product sucks because 80%+ of the contents of any given set are just garbage.

As I said before, people do not experiment enough. The midcore decks tend to have enough strength to go and defeat meta decks. Many times tournament goers built uber-meta, ultra expensive decks only to be curbstomped by a rogue strategy that had some nifty interactions. And then you hear those guys demand bans of those cards.

Normal summoning Clayman does occasionally beat full power Tear.
Making anti-meta deck building choices is always going to be a game of whack-a-mole. If the anti-meta option succeeds, it becomes popular, and then the meta decks start playing an out for it. The current meta decks actually have a relatively low ceiling (compared to Snake-Eyes setting up Baronne, Savage, and 4-mat Appo protected by Elf) but make up for it in flexibility. Dracotail just flat out doesn't have an out for Liger Dancer but doesn't instantly lose to Fuwalos, Nib, and Droll unlike Lunalight. Dimension Shifter is an instant win for decks that can play it but without it decks like Floo just explode into the sun from a single interruption.

I just hate that a lot of the legacy support is aimed at giving these decks more wombo combos but don't really make the decks more resilient to interruption. Holly Sue single-handedly makes VS an actually playable deck. Synchrons and Six Samurai could already combo through every card in their deck but their obvious choke points make them too vulnerable unless your opponent completely bricked.

I do not know about Clayman but I know about the times where people's uber-meta deck got wrecked and people demanded bans of every card that made the rogue decks work. You have decks like Tenpai that have tons of vulnerabilities but because they were a tad bit too good in the Battle Phase, they limited them.

It is annoying when the meta guys prefer to complain about their solitaire being ineffective against someone who planned for it as opposed to actually fixing the issues their decks have.

Decks are supposed to have identity. Yeah, they have weaknesses but also strengths. Konami has received many complains about the negates so I feel they dialed them down recently.

I was referencing this clip with the Clayman thing
Tenpai had to be murdered because it just killed too easily. Sangen Summoning is just an awfully designed card Especially in BO1.

Yeah, it killed quick but still. There were a ton more unfair decks and ways staples could counter it.

So, I was happy enough with the Rush Duel replicas to keep digging around as to what else was out there. I came across this place called Final Saga through random Yu-Tu-Be videos like this one. The business itself also has a channel. It seems their first-main product was 5 (60-Card) Battle City replica decks (Yugi, Kaiba, Joey, Marik, Bakura) in the style of the 4Kids dub replacement cards.

Japanese and censorship primarily, of course. But also: US TV laws and FCC regulations regarding advertising in children's television dictated that the cards shown in the anime could not perfectly match the physical product sold in stores, necessitating alterations to card layouts.

The decks seem to be designed for immediate play with one-another, and each comes with a companion booklet explaining card effects. The card effects, and even some of the cards themselves, have been modified to more accurately reflect what they did in the show. Similarly, they encourage-recommend playing with rules that more closely align with those of the show. On their channel they have some demos:
- Yugi vs Kaiba #1
- Kaiba vs Joey #1
- Yugi vs Kaiba #2
- Kaiba vs Joey #2

Recently it seems they released 15 additional (60-card) decks based around Duelist Kingdom, and additional cards from that era. Featuring characters like the Paradox Brothers, Panik and Bonz (someone tell Paul). Though, they don't seem as playable as the battle city ones.

Besides those main-2 product lines, they seemingly have quite a bit of other stuff: booster boxes, card sets, proxies, sleeves, deck boxes, etc.

~ My Thoughts ~
Pretty cool... I think the Battle City decks, as they're intended to be used, seem pretty fun. Unfortunately, using them differently, like mixing-matching, and being just forced to remember what a random card does would be unacceptable imo.

In contrast, the Duelist Kingdom decks don't have that problem as much as they're VERY stuffed with vanilla monsters. Now, personally, as a Normal Monster activist and defender, I appreciate that, but acknowledge that it most-likely negatively impacts the playability of those DK decks A LOT. Also, the Duelist Kingdom decks do not currently have effect booklets; which... basically means they're unplayable? Lol, that would explain why they haven't posted any duels with them.

Of course, collectability-display are possibly these products strongest argument. On that front, in terms of bang-for buck, Final Saga seems to have better (though still expensive ofc) prices compared to the competition I can find: ex. #1 & ex. #2. It seems they have their competition beat in terms of quality too, at least based on the showcase videos I've watched.

So, to conclude, for me personally, the Battle City decks are the winners. What the products attempt to accomplish echoes that of the Speed Duel product line, but in a different enough way (and style!) so as to be worth praising and ultimately sharing here, with you faggots. Consider giving them a look. When I'm less poor, I'll probably be eyeing the classic God Cards trio of Yugi, Kaiba & Marik.

https://youtube.com/watch?v=hhUhEHC2R9YYou know your hobby is cooked when a BLASPHEMOUS TCG POLYGAMIST lays out in retard-language how F-U-C-K-E-D your shit is, and even then, they were still being nice / biting their tongue / throwing weenie hut junior punches at you cult faggots.
I guess YuGiOh could just crawl on its knees to whatever toy company is turning the most profit this year to get licensing deals like MTG, surely that would save us all.

It is amazing to make such a fuss about YGO being doomed when its competition has FAAAAAR bigger issues to deal with. Pokemon has turned into a crypto coin (I do not blame TPC for this as it is beyond their control but still) and MTG shat the bed at an absurd amount in 2025 and is going to resume doing so in 2026 too.

I am not into Whataboutism but in the TCG competitive scene, you have to see how the competition is doing too. YGO is excelling in comparison.

Pokémon is a fascinating study where a meta deck is probably cheap as dirt but the collection scene is completely fucked, the competitive power of a card is basically completely decoupled from its price, meanwhile collectors trying to build sets just to complete whatever they’re going for are the ones getting fleeced most of the time. YGO gets pricy cards mostly just based off of being rare meta relevant cards, aside from very old first edition nostalgia rare cards, but they’re almost never a speculative asset due to the reprint policy, so there’s a cap to how high the prices can get. Meanwhile MTG can end up with the worst of both worlds where a meta deck ends up an order of magnitude more expensive than even Yu-Gi-Oh because it needs high rarity cards that won’t be reprinted while that deck is legal in Standard. At least MTG and Pokémon players get paid for winning I guess.

NONONONONONONO! Not even close to how bad it has gotten! MTG has issues with MISPRINTS! They have become abundant!

This is on top of the Universes Beyond issue. The actual cards have gone bust! YGO might outlive MTG if they do not get their heads out of their asses. Hasbro is cooked! MTG is their only worthwhile product and they broke it last year.

This is an actual censorship edit Konami's American branch did.
