Just got back from being out and about. Was in a conversation (well really listened in on one) with several shitlibs. One of them thought Trump will usher in a dictatorship soon or his kids would run next, but not Ivanka because "they hate women" (I guess ignore the women in cabinet positions), another thought he will not survive his presidency because someone will "do something" (aka more assassinations) and basically fully supported said action. They all agreed that Trump voters were gullible morons who will make more because "trump is going after education". JD Vance being Boo'd at the Olympics and it was just the greatest thing - especially because of what trump posted today was just beyond to pale for them. All in all, always interesting on get unfiltered reddit takes IRL.
Same, got to hear this type of conversation as well. Just add in that JD Vance is too stupid to win 2028, so the Dems will sure overtake. After that it was them using the line "are things really better than a year ago," on Republicans to shut up the feeble Boomer ones.

Just some Washington things since it intruded into my commute: apparently some of the local highschool let a couple hundred kids out to congregate on street corners to protest ICE near the school. I say "let them out" because there were obvious school personnel with badges and school police running security.
This is definitely being organized on the national level as I've seen social media posts from all around the country from parents, school admins, and others about the protests and what the school rules are if the kids decide to protest during school hours or off school grounds during the school day. I've seen unsubstantiated claims the NEA teachers union is behind this. Still, it shows how these protests are anything but spontaneous. It also shows the duality of these same teachers claiming students need more or better instruction while encouraging those same students to go out and protest, sometimes during school hours if they can do so without consequence.
On a similar note, a number of people I know who are most vocal about left-leaning topics usually don't bring them up at offline events and don't seem to bat an eye when people offline might not necessarily share those same views. It's the vocal minority who screeches the most and tries to sow as much division as possible.
One of the best things people can do for their mental health is stay the fuck away from the mainstream media. Don't watch TV. Don't read mainstream newspapers, Don't go to Yahoo, MSNBC or these other shit-stirring websites. Plenty of other ways to get the news.
I've largely stopped watching the evening TV news and national news because it almost always devolves into politisperging that would be relegated to Spergatory if it was posted here. The media is its own worst enemy sometimes.
Had a kid in my local school hit a homeless man trying to drive away for the walk out, another threatened to shoot up the school, and another got in a fight with a guy with a trump sticker on his car at the local hospital, got his ass kicked.

I guess it's probably the fact that like 70% of the post-millennial population has resigned themselves to a barren and childless life and now treat dogs as surrogate children [sometimes referring to them as 'furbabies', fucking cringe] and feel the need to take them everywhere with them, even when the situation is not an appropriate place for a dog to be.
If you gently nudge a dog with the toe of your boot because he's being bothersome, you're basically the devil incarnate now. Redditoids are particularly bad about it.

Honestly depends. The USHTS has the reciprocal tariffs listed, but also tariff exclusions for various commodities under annex arrangements. If one reciprocal HTS seemingly contradicts another, the newer one generally takes precedent. Official White House Annex III attached and embedded.

For example: I am importing ceramic mugs made in China. The HTS code arrangement would look like...
9903.01.24 - this is the big one for China. 20% duty iirc
9903.01.25 - this is the generic 10% global tariff, but China still gets dinged by it in the customs clearance process.
6912.00.4810 - this is the actual commodity HTS code. Ceramic tableware for use with food or drink. I think this one has a really minor tariff on it like <10%, but I can't be fucked to look it up.
But what if I'm importing stainless steel thermoses? The HTS code rrangement would then look something like...
9903.01.24 - This stays @ 20%
9903.01.33 - This is a tariff exclusion HTS code. Basically, the stainless steel thermos is exempt from Section 232 duties. That also includes the flat 10% IEEPA duties.
9903.81.90 - HOWEVER... this product is still technically a product of China, and a derivative iron/steel product. Therefore, this HTS code outlines a 50% tariff.
7323.93.0060 - This is the actual commodity HTS code. Stainless steel kitchenware. This one definitely has a tariff of its own but I can't be fucked to look it up.
Last year, the tariff update situation was so fucking annoying because brokerage software couldn't update fast enough to match the pace of the administration. This meant there were tons of man-hours put into manually overriding duty rates when writing the customs entry, auditing it, and ensuring that the customer won't get fucked by the administration deciding "we will retroactively apply this tariff arrangement at such and such time." That level of chaos has... well, it hasn't necessarily "died down," but I would argue it is stabilising.
As of this year (2026), will the proposed Iran duties get bolted on, take priority over, or otherwise screw with other China/IEEPA HTS codes? I genuinely have no fucking clue. In 2025 alone, we went from flat 10% globally to everyone having unique IEEPA HTS codes to match negotiated duty rates (i.e. 9903.02.20 for all goods coming from the EU, 15% if the tariff of the commodity in question is 10% or lower iirc), to losing Section 321 (i.e. De Minimis) altogether meaning that there was a huge influx of formal entries on cargo that never once required formal entries, to now having annex exceptions that still technically fall under IEEPA but invalidate certain duty rates for certain commodity types.
I really love the Trump administration's trade policy from a big picture scale... but my fucking GOD, these niggas need to chill tf out with these rapid fire updates.
Unsolicited career advice for anyone who's got reservations about working for the US federal government: The US Customs Broker License Exam is perhaps the last bastion of competence left in a civil service-adjacent role. Basically, you don't get hired by CBP to be a customs broker. Basically, the license confers upon you the right to file customs entries on all cargo entering or exiting the USA. The US Harmonized Tariff System (HTS) is a dense tome of commodity and tariff codes that cover every class of product ever conceived... and you need to study that alongside the monumental corpus of US customs regulations.
The CBLE has a really low pass rate (<25%) and (at least to my knowledge) there's been no successful attempt at niggering it up with DEI ERG stuff because surprise surprise: no one wants to run afoul of the international logistics machine where enterprises directly interact with federal or even foreign governments. All the courses available for the CBLE are good courses, but I gotta warn ya: they can't guarantee that you'll pass. They flat-out say something like "we trust that 80% of participants who took our CBLE course passed the exam." And those courses are expensive unless your job subsidises it.
You could try operating as a private customs brokerage entity; it's certainly doable even fresh out the gate. Problem is that vertical integration is a motherfucker. New importers, but especially most B2B transactions from small businesses all the way up through the Fortune 500 multinationals, they're gonna want more than just a standalone customs broker. Can you arrange delivery of the cargo? Are you willing to assume risk by arranging delivery or otherwise handling the cargo? What if you haven't yet gotten to delivery? Let's say the shit just arrived at the Port of Entry and they need to get it out ASAP before they get dinged for storage charges. Have you clearly communicated to your customer that you're only responsible for writing the entry and that the term of sale indicates it's the importer's responsibility to arrange transport and pay terminal charges? It's tons of hassle unless you're willing to bootstrap that level of verticality.
Honestly, the biggest draw for taking and passing the CBLE is that it's open to the public, your customs brokerage license immediately makes you valuable for trade compliance, logistics coordination, higher-level procurement, or even supervisory/managerial roles at 3PL firms... although that last one would probably be a huge red flag if they gambled on an outside, freshly licensed jack-off and didn't hire internally. Either way, you know what I mean: this is an easy gateway to a high five figure, maybe low-to-mid six figure income, generally salaried, but it's white collar work that's still accessible to jack-offs with a high school education. This ain't gonna give you federal government job security, but it'll definitely give you a ton of options for work in the private sector... and it's arguably a job that ain't strictly banal paper pushing; there's some genuine intellectual stimulation going on.

It's amazing how many of the Democrat's failures are due to their inability to stop rigging their primaries. If the Democrats just didn't rig their primaries in 2016, 2020, and 2024. They would have had Bernie Sanders as a nominee in 2016 and 2020, Tulsi Gabbard would still be a Democrat and a Liberal, RFK Jr. would still be a Dem and though he probably wouldn't have won the nomination in 2024, he wouldn't have run as an independent or teamed up with Trump. If they did a mini primary instead of coronating Kamala you could have had AOC or another "strong" Dem as the nominee and won 2024. If the Republicans rigged their primaries, they would have run Jeb in 2016 and Nikki Haley in 2024 and likely have lost both elections.
