The problem with any "muh optics" hand-wringing is that there's no real solutions offered, so it basically comes down to saying that a right-wing elected government must never, ever actually enforce any right-wing policies or else they'll lose next elections. I have to question what the point of voting for the non-left party is if they're not supposed to ever fight with or stop the leftists (whether the politicians or random protesters trying to physically fight law enforcement) from doing whatever they want, or why such a party would get voted in in the first place if their oppositional stance to what the left wants is clearly so unpopular with the average person.

Even if you want to frame this as you being against the exact method in which Trump's admin is fighting illegal immigration, no one here has any direct control over that, nor are those who support Trump likely to have a problem themselves with how he's doing it. What are you proposing exactly? That right-wingers should reject the current admin so as to not ruin the reputation of the right-wing as a whole so they can later vote in some hypothetical new right-wing party that will do things better without the optics issue? Cause that's such a fantastical scenario that it really just becomes "be blackpilled and do nothing".

The issue is that there's no clean way out of the mess we've allowed to happen, and people don't have the stomach for the dirty work necessary to fix the situation.

Like it or not, optics do matter. It's not merely about raw power, but also a question of legitimacy, and what you public will allow.

The deportations are not only happening because of federal law, but also at the behest of the voters. You don't wanna lose that mandate with an unforced error or wanton disregard for the law.

To consider these factors is not cuckoldry, it's prudence and rationality. This is the best the Right has had in decades, we cannot fuck it up now.

That's true in general, but with this particular instance there wasn't really any other way this situation could have gone. Even if the worst case scenario for optics is true, which is that that the officers made a mistake and shot first because of seeing the gun and thinking it was the perp reaching for it and not another officer, the confusion and speed of the situation means their actions don't really fall into being particularly negligent. 1. They were fighting to keep a struggling guy on the ground 2. while a they were surrounded by other protesters who might try something 3. who were also shouting and blaring whistle noises and shit. 4. If the gun actually did discharge on its own, then that's further good reason for the officers to be spooked and assume the perp shot it. 5. And they're trained to make quick decisions to shoot to kill if they think they're in danger.

Even if it turned out the guy didn't actually have his hand on his gun, the situation is understandable and by-the-book enough that it doesn't really call for anything but shrugging that it's unfortunate, but the guy wouldn't have been in this situation if he hadn't tried physically fighting law enforcement in the first place. Because that's that main, inciting cause for what happened, there's nothing to really learn from the situation on how to avoid it again unless you want to say that the officers just shouldn't stop protesters from physically interfering with their job or resisting arrest, which is basically just admitting defeat at that point.

And have it so that any illegal can use the app to request a one way ticket to Minnesota as long as they do not leave. Then revoke all funding to the state until it complies with deportations.
