CROATIAN President Zoran Milanović commented today on US President Donald Trump's repeated ambitions to take over Greenland,
calling the island "useless" compared to the Svalbard archipelago .
Milanović pointed out that Greenland is not a key factor in American security, except in the case of extreme melting of Arctic ice that would lead to a global catastrophe.
Instead, he turned his attention to Svalbard, a Norwegian archipelago that, according to him, offers greater strategic potential due to its ice-free sea influenced by the Gulf Stream.
"There is, I just don't know if the American administration has seen it on the map yet, the Svalbard Islands. It belongs in principle to Norway. It is a little east of Greenland and the Gulf Stream ends there and the sea is not frozen. That is interesting. Here, I gave them a topic to think about. Maybe they saw on the map that there is also that archipelago. Greenland is useless," he said today in a statement he gave to the media in Čakovec.
