Greenland has, amongst other things, a gigantic anount of fresh water. If (natural) global warming is indeed a thing...well, has one heard of the Water Wars hypothesis? Should we not plan ahead like people who can answer the Breakfast Question?

Now factor in natural resources like rare earth minerals. I do not know if EPA restrictions on mining such deposits in the States would apply to a Territory - in any case, it makes sense to seek out such supplies without depleting what we have at home. That's why we import oil for daily use and store domestic production for emergencies.

Now factor in its geographic importance in a steadily busier arctic region - Denmark can't protect it from a power like Russia or China, and us owning it means those waters are Our Business.

If it were seized by our enemies, then these advantages are also seized.

The "this is stupid" people also said that about tariffs in general, that Venezuela was Muh War For Oil...instead of being able to deny that oil to Russia and China. Ignoring that those were our operations to begin with before Chavez said 'yoink'.

If Greenland was useless and unimportant, we wouldn't have built Thule AFB there.

I bet Canada likes us having Atlantic Arctic Circle access via Greenland more than they would Vinland. "Don't want to be the 51st state? Butt out of the Greenland discussion, then."

I mean, why build bases at all, we're not in a war right now, amirite? Very Summer Squirrel thinking. You build today for the future, and opportunities don't last forever. It's easier to take Greenland now, than retake it from Russia or China later.

My theory is they’re aware of this more and less and feel the need to be openly anti trump to jiggle keys for their side.

The Canada deal is more retarded, as adversary relations between the West and China are a matter of when at this point. And making such deals is only going to point you as a potential source of trouble for future administrations. That being said, I also get that feeling that deal was for show too.

Lol, theoretically. If we add their strategic value, natural resources and build some time shares there it 'might' be worth trillions. Realistically WE might be able to extract trillions from, but it will take billions in investment to do it. And that's something Denmark isn't capable of and wasn't interested in until this shit started. Back to the real money deal.

With a GDP of 3.33b I think the offer of 700b by Trump/Rubio was more than acceptable. That's 200 years worth GDP that they would get instantly. But Denmark is more concerned with its izzat amongst the EU. Thers more to this but I'll save it.

In 2024 the EU exported 600b± goods to the US. Assuming that's the same this year, the proposed tariffs are 25% flat across all of the EU. So 600b×.25 gets us 150b. So in one year that's about 50 Greenlands paid for or about 2.5 Greenlands a month.
(There is strong evidence that shows companies are throwing the tariff costs to consumers btw, so chances are AMERICANS will cough up most of that money that is 'gained').

Are we still pretending we don't know how tarrifs work? Or is this part of the gimmick. You can't "push" the cost to the consumer, allow me to break it down for the slow ones in the back(not you king).

The phenomenon you're describing is the companies jacking the prices way up, and using the tariffs as an excuse. If the prices were being raised proportionally to the tariffs then you wouldn't see a massive increase in their earnings as it's just an offset. But these assholes get hit with a 25% tariff and raised the costs by 80%. Then not only do they make more money but they also get to blame the tariffs all while crying "wah, Trump's so mean. Blame orange man!". If you want to see prices go down then buy local and make these retards take a hit in the mouth for once. I'm rambling, but you get the idea.

Also I don't believe you're a demoralization agent like @MetokurGroomedMe. I think you're a funny gimmick, keeping all those migger chuds in line.

The US just needs "Illegal immigrant patrol" versions of them (minus the rifles and the talk of killing aka bagging and tagging) and suddenly you've got millions of pissed off and nominally armed 'Murrikans who would back up ICE and local cops in a flash.

i'm 95% sure that it's "don't care"
and i'm at least 80% sure that this attitude is a backlash against euro politicians and media basically spending the last two decades being as overtly anti america as russia and china have been.
i'm not american but i am exposed to the anti american sentiment that politicians and media spread here in europe every day, it's really easy for me to see how this shit eventually creates a "with friends like these, who needs enemies?" reaction on the other side of the ocean. i see trumps greenland meme as being the first time this reaction actually manifests in reality.

for now the euro establishments situation is still that of a shell shocked headless chicken, they have no idea what the fuck is happening or how to handle it. eventually this will pass, and i don't know how they will move forward then.
trying to pivot towards a "simp for china" posture is an option. it's a very unwise one in terms of long term outcomes imo, but it's easy and convenient so i wouldn't be surprised if this is what they end up doing.
trying to build independence and real power for europe would be another option, but it's not realistic in my opinion, because it would involve doing a lot of things that fundamentally contradict the ideology and worldview of these leaders, and it would involve a lot of sacrifice and hard work.
trying to align with russia is even more unrealistic, to the point where i think that it's completely off the table.
and finally, remaining aligned with america is also possible, but it would be a big blow to the ego of the ruling class so i'm not sure how realistic of an outcome this is either.

Yeah this is exactly what I'm thinking. There are no good options here for Europe other than trying to make themselves independent, and that would require so much fucking work lmao. It would be the best option though. Allying with Russia would be a 'we were always at war with Oceania' level of delusion so I doubt they'll go for that. They hate China nearly as much and most of their shit is cheap and awful.
Europe is alone except for the USA and they're all being reminded of this. I guess it had to happen one of these days, I just didn't expect it to be over something as retarded as GREENLAND.

Do these guys really think a few token troops from west europe matter to anyone? I'm not even big on the Greenland thing, I don't want it as a state for sure but a PR style territory or whatever is fine I guess. But Europe just has no power. We don't even buy anything from them really, so they can't tariff us very much. At most it could affect some military tech relations.
