Great bodily harm.

(1) an employee or an elected or appointed official of a political subdivision or law enforcement agency who is licensed by the board, charged with the prevention and detection of crime and the enforcement of the general criminal laws of the state and who has the full power of arrest, and shall also include the Minnesota State Patrol, agents of the Division of Alcohol and Gambling Enforcement, state conservation officers, Metropolitan Transit police officers, Department of Corrections Fugitive Apprehension Unit officers, the statewide coordinator of the Violent Crime Coordinating Council, and railroad peace officers as authorized by section 219.995 and United States Code, title 49, section 28101;

Whoever assaults and inflicts great bodily harm upon a peace officer, prosecuting attorney, judge, or correctional employee with a dangerous weapon or by using or attempting to use deadly force against the officer, attorney, judge, or employee while the person is engaged in the performance of a duty imposed by law, policy, or rule may be sentenced to imprisonment for not more than 30 years or to payment of a fine of not more than $40,000, or both.

Mandatory sentences for assaults against a peace officer, prosecuting attorney, judge, or correctional employee.

(a) A person convicted of assaulting a peace officer, prosecuting attorney, judge, or correctional employee shall be committed to the custody of the commissioner of corrections for not less than:

(1) ten years, nor more than 20 years, for a violation of subdivision 2;

(2) 15 years, nor more than 25 years, for a violation of subdivision 3; or

(3) 25 years, nor more than 30 years, for a violation of subdivision 4.

(b) A defendant convicted and sentenced as required by this subdivision is not eligible for probation, parole, discharge, work release, or supervised release, until that person has served the full term of imprisonment as provided by law, notwithstanding the provisions of sections 241.26, 242.19, 243.05, 244.04, 609.12, and 609.135. Notwithstanding section 609.135, the court may not stay the imposition or execution of this sentence.

It's so critical to understanding the difference between right wing and left wing violence. Most people are stopped from committing acts of violence no matter their political stripe by the simple fact that they can do basic cost-benefit analysis.

For example, you see a cop arresting one of your comrades. Most people would do nothing, as you'll just get arrested too, and then you'll have to spend the next three days minimum in jail, perhaps decades or even life depending on the severity of your violence. Most people who commit violence want it to actually count, to do something that will be worth the jail time.

Leftist violence doesn't have this filter. They'll attack that police officer arresting their comrade, they'll trade decades of jail time for absolutely retarded shit. It's unfortunately really effective in a certain sense, so long as they have the numbers to absorb the arrests. But it's also a system that threatens to backfire badly one day.
