It’s not that it’s too complicated to write. Chinese people write in cursive and it’s very fast. The theory was that simplification would make it easier to read and increase literacy. However, Hong Kong and Taiwan never switched and they managed to increase literacy to like 99%. The literacy argument doesn’t hold water. Turns out literacy depends on industrialization, not on what some boneheaded ‘scholars’ think makes a language ‘easier’.

A lot of modern lefties aren't looking to the working classes as the revolutionary force anymore, they follow Hardt & Negri's idea that it will come from the Multitude, basically an amalgamation of every "oppressed" group acting in unison. That's why you end up with "Gays for Palestine," white wimmin trying to spring serial rapists from jail, etc., it's all "one struggle" to them. Actual members of the working class are seen as complicit in capitalism, and therefore an obstacle to be overcome. To the extent that open borders makes the native working class worse off, that's not a bug, that's a feature; either they get cut off from society, and thus become part of the Multitude, or they lose what little power they had and suffer, which is good because they're the enemy.
Don't forget that the whole reason we decided to overthrow Libya despite Qaddafi playing ball when it came to nuclear disarmament was that Hillary's buddy Sy Hersh had a financial arrangement with a group that wanted to be in charge of a post-Qaddafi government (which didn't end up happening).

After their open plans for revolution failed, they turned to accomplishing the same thing through slow and peaceful means. Obama is a political product of this Plan B. When you look at him from this perspective, him and his team were very effective at sneaking a radical leftist agenda under the radar and selling it as centrist politics.
