Just how much is one of those 3M full-face respirators going to protect you from CS gas?
Looking at the molecular diagram of the active ingredient, and the names of the common solvents it's deployed in, both look like something that should be readily stopped by 3M's most basic bitch activated charcoal filters. I've used half-mask respirators like that before around some fairly nasty organic chemicals, and they
did work. The only thing you could smell inside the mask was the smell of the rubber itself.
So, unless there's something I don't know about chlorobenzalmalononitrile or methyl isobutyl ketone, it seems to me that a
genuine 3M style full mask respirator should protect someone
if it is properly used.
Watching how unserious these revolutionary LARPers are, I am
painfully aware how much heavy lifting "genuine" and "properly used" are doing. The market is probably opportunistically flooded by chinkshit clones that don't work, masks and cartridges both. Probably at least half the people putting these things on are not taking care to get a proper seal, whether by not tying back their hair, or having an unshaven face and chin. And I would not be surprised that even a small amount of CS or MIKP getting past a weak seal would be enough to have at least
some irritating effect.
But for for the sake of retarded discussion, let us assume the existence of a person smart enough to know how to properly use a full mask respirator, but somehow still retarded enough to be anywhere near CS gas. Would not the mask protect him enough that he could keep doing something retarded enough to get properly shot dead, and not just beanbagged?
