The Trump Regime hates dissent and criticism, that's why they've gone so hard at Tim Walz, Steven Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel, and every other one of Trump's vocal critics. Despite wielding so much power, they have extremely fragile egos, and were elected, in part because Trump's voters believe that Trump's personal vendettas are their personal vendettas, therefore him fucking over his critics is a victory for them.
Even before the Nick Shirley daycare grift dropped, Walz was a constant thorn in Trump and Elon Musk's sides during the first year of Trump's second term. In specific, that video where Walz mocks Tesla's stocks for nearly crashing to sub $200 during the DOGE fiasco really chapped their asses. Trump has deliberately been targeting Minnesota in particular by with federal funding cuts, using ICE and the National Guard to invade its cities and cause unrest since Walz started to embarrass him on the public stage.
Things like today's ICE shooting happened because Trump wants to spite Walz. The whole "Somali Fraud" shit was supposed to be his checkmate move against him by dragging him to DC for several months' worth of useless House hearings that would've resulted in nothing (because the Fraud ring had been exposed within the first year of Biden's administration, with convictions and sentencing by the second) but could've bogged down his campaign had he not chosen to withdraw.
Mark Kelly really gets at Trump's ass because Kelly actually has credibility and popularity within the armed forces. Trump wants to maintain the illusion that he's the Military's President, and having a guy who hadn't already been demonized like Milley gets in the way of that.

This reminds me of Trump hastily cobbling together the "Platinum Plan" for black people during the 2020 election to try and win over black voters after Biden (second in command to the nation's first black president) won the nomination, and the tide turned against the right wing after Derek Chauvin killed George Floyd. That plan slowly flittered away as the election drew nearer and never came back.
Trump is a man of nothing but empty promises. He'll say what he wants to get into power and never actually enact anything that actually benefits non-millionaires.
