It just doesn't seem to explain the dozens of his personal bodyguards who were killed. Most of the deaths at Ft. Tiuna seem to have been Cubans, while Venezuelan personnel were killed at various locations around the country.
Perhaps there was some resentment/hatred of the Cuban palace guards/"Cuban faction" (cit ref media reports that Maduro's Venezuelan guards were not allowed to use cell phones, while his Cuban guards were), and whatever human sources gave away Maduro's location were quite comfortable with all the Cubans getting killed.
