Many people think this was set up by Rubio to move towards an overthrow of the Cuban government.
Trump is increasingly easily manipulated by courtiers, as his mental decline (from an already very low baseline) accelerates, and which course of action is pursued will be decided not by any long term strategic planning, but by which faction in his vicinity is ascendant at the moment.
I wonder whether the Madurists are aware of this and are playing for time.
The domestic situation in the US will continue to get worse for Trump, and he is surrounded by people who push for the US to enter into open conflict with NATO (Vance and Miller). With how chaotic things are, they have reason to hope that that a year or two from now, nobody will pay attention to them anymore. Heck, maybe Trump will even coerce some oil corporation to fix some of their decrepit infrastructure before things fall apart.
So much depends on things that are impossible to know and predict.

I'm especially interested to see what the foreign response will be when (not if) the boys in the black helicopters start rapping on Sheinbaum's door down in Meheeco. The collective finger-wagging will be something else. You just know all of the border action between our military and theirs nearly a year ago has to mean something. The USA dispute with Venezuela isn't over Fentanyl. The dispute is multifaceted.
On the drug side its not fent, its cocaine.
Beyond that though, Venezuela exporpiated the oil infrastructure US corporations built to develop the oil fields. Further they then started using this stolen property to prop up the Cubans by giving it to them essentially for free. The Cubans would then sell what they didnt use to the Chinese at a discount.
As if this wasn't bad enough, Venezuela used its oil industry as a money laundering hub, diplomatic passports to move cash and couriers for various south American cartels around the world.
Oh but it also gets worse. Venezuela also became the primary western hemisphere hub for the so called "shadow fleet" which is a term used to describe sanctions dodging transport vessels operated by US adversaries like Iran, North Korea and Russia to move through the western Hemisphere and also evade interdiction of arms and oil more generally.
Strangely enough, Venezuela did everything it could to provoke America EXCEPT ship fentanyl.

I think most people don't buy the fentanyl excuse cause otherwise USA would be attacking Mexico. Except kidnapping the mexican president would be pointless cause I don't think it would affect the cartels much, so USA would have to occupy it like it did to Afghanistan.

Oil is venesuelan, if anything it was made in ex us refineries, which per nationalization act aren't US anymore for more than 20 years.
US has no claim on this and it is china's turn now as VN was a big oil exporter to them
