You've forgotten the classic at Bastogne, where when presented with a German surrender demand in the middle of his defensive planning, General MacAuliffe yelled out "Nuts!" because he was already dealing with a year's worth of shit and didn't have the time to come up with a formal reply. He would then of course forget all about it, and after he was later reminded he needed to give a reply someone just remarked, "Well, hard to beat what he already said."
