You left out that he lied and lied and lied about any money exchanging hands, and then he was caught, he admitted to giving the kid some money, then he got caught again and admitted to giving the kid even more money and then got caught a third time and admitted to giving money to the proprietor of the website. If this was all on the up and up he would have been straight about what he was doing with his employers - not to mention that even if we assume he's not a pedo, he apparently went through all this work so that he could write a story and make money off of it.
